You dont need the velocity to find the maximum atainable height. Like a poster said before, you take the first derivative and set it equal to zero. That equation will give you the velocity at any point on the graph, by setting it equal to zero, your finding the point where the velocity is zero and perhaps the maximum height. I can tell you right now just by looking at the equation that it was fired 15 "units" above the surface.

I'm assuming he is in college algebra. In my college algebra course, we touched not anything near derivs.

Ahh...honestly, I would have no idea how to solve that without derivatives.

I'm in the process of reteaching myself Calc and Trig because I want to go back to school to get a Masters in an engineering field. Haven't decided on EE or Automotive, but I need to brush up on Calc either way. My Bachelor's is in Econ, go figure... I remeber all this from the last Calc class I had which was my 2nd year of college, 12 yrs ago. I haven't used it regularly since. That will probably change soon.
