Simple 3 way question

I want to try a 3 way upfront (no sub) setup, but I have no clue how to do this.

I have:

2 Dayton RS180

2 Crystal tweets (from a component set, I really like them...)

Alpine 9833

2 channel amp (75x2)

Raamat on its way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

What I want:

1. A full frontstage

2. No rear fill

3. NO SUB

4. I dont play music loud, always drive with windows rolled up

Questions:

1. Is this "possible" without purchasing more amps?? - Im not asking if it sounds great, just if it is feasible with those components...

2. I'm willing to modify my doors to fit a 2-3" midrange.. Any suggestions?

Suggestions are welcome

nope not possible. if you are going with a 3 way front stage, you'll a channel per speaker. also i wouldn't recommend going subless with the rs180. it probably nowhere near get down the sub bass region effectively.

also if you are going with a 3 way front stage, i wouldn't waste anytime putting midranges in doors. its a total waste IMO.

The amp you have now is capable of powering your mids and tweets, two channels for two sets of speakers. The power/impedance/sound and all that, I have no idea, but in terms of just channels, you have enough.

^^ What??Whay Will He Need A Channel Per Speaker?
cause he's going active. in order to go active, each speaker must have its own channel. unless of course he's using passive xovers then he won't need the extra channels. but he'll have to say how he's gonna crossover everything before we can make a real assessment on amps.

With no sub you're never going to get a complete soundstage, FYI. If you have to put everything up front you can still use a sub. They have small subs that are 8'' or maybe even smaller, or if you properly power and crossover a 6 1/2 you might get it to play down to 50hz accurately.

If you absolutely don't want to have sub frequencies for some reason, I would recommend just buying another set of mids, 6 1/2'', and having them play a small set of frequencies down to about 50hz, then have your other mids play all the mid ranges and your tweets play upper. However with 3 sets of speakers you will need a different, or an additional amp, since a 2 channel amp doesn't have 3 channels.

Wrong, each set of speakers will need a channel, not each individual speaker. Unless he only has mono channels available on his amp for some reason, but I doubt that is the case.

if he's going active each speaker will need an individual channel. no bones about it my friend. now if he's going passive then yes, each side will get one channel. again the OP hasn't stated how he's gonna crossover everything say we'll wait and see how he plans on doing that.

a single channel is mono, so youre statement about only having mono channels is redundant. in order to do a 3 way active set up, he would need to have six(6) channels. either a six channel amp, or three 2 channel amps, or a four channel and a 2 channel. or six mono blocks.

Thanks for the replies.

There is nothing set on stone yet. I could go 2way passive, active, 3 way, whatever... I was just thinking out loud and hearing opinions...

This is the deal: my brother has a nissan xtrail, with stock speakers and everthing else is stock too, it has 6.5" woofers and tweets in the dash and they get sufficiently loud and with enough bass for my taste. ==> So if I figure that I have fully deadened doors and bigger woofers (7" daytons), and a 75x2 amp, I should be able to achieve at least as much bass as he has right??

Now the reason I thought about adding a dedicated midrange is that I like "forward" sounding mids, such as the ones out of my Grado SR80 phones...

At this point, I just bought a whole bunch on raamat, and dont really have much cash left (maybe $100..) for drivers or amps..

So, Im pretty open to suggestions and guidance //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I understand that, but doesn't my HU have 4 channels already?? (thinking tweets and mids), and a sub out (thinking amp to woofers)??

if you are going to be using youre factory speaker hook ups, its only going to complicate things more. and we wouldnt really have any idea how many channels it has. it should have 4 at the least, but thats getting pretty complicated.

IMHO, if you are going to be powering off of your HU, using factory wiring and amplification, you would be better off saving your money and getting some good coaxials and pairing them with a small sub or mid-bass.
