Simple 3 way question

if you are going to be using youre factory speaker hook ups, its only going to complicate things more. and we wouldnt really have any idea how many channels it has. it should have 4 at the least, but thats getting pretty complicated.
IMHO, if you are going to be powering off of your HU, using factory wiring and amplification, you would be better off saving your money and getting some good coaxials and pairing them with a small sub or mid-bass.
I do have an Alpine 9833, and a 75x2 amp????

I really recommend a sub. Even if it's this little guy off of 75w rms in a 0.25 cf sealed box.
Do you have passive crossovers for your mids and tweets?
Well I dont want to buy another amp, and I dont want to sacrifice luggage space... If I could fit them in my doors, then that's something to think about...

I do have passive crossovers that came with the Crystal tweets, no mids though (other that the Dayton RS180-4)

Since you have the passive crossovers, you can use them with your 2 channel amp and wire up the RS180 mids to them along with the tweeters.

Not sure how it'll sound, but it might just work okay for you.

That was my initial plan, but since I dont know the workings of that passive crossover, I wanted to try going active.

My questions for you is then:

Could I go 2way active with my 9833 and my 2 channel amp?

Im thinking I could hook up the tweets directly to the internal amp in my HU and the amp to the daytons, and use the built in crossovers in my HU.

==> As you can see, Im pretty new at this and don't even know if this is possible. Please advise.

If you have a band pass filter for the mids, then you can use them like so. I wouldn't let them roll off naturally.

OK from my 9833 manual: http://www.fixya.com/support/p198799-alpine_cda_9833_cd_player/manual-2105/page-17

Let me see if I get this at all. Could I run 3 way active like so???

1. Have a High Range speaker (ie tweeter), directly connected from my HU's internal amp, high passed 1KH to 20KHz (probably around 2KHz)

2. Have a Mid Range speaker (ie Dayton RS180), hooked to my 2 channel amp, bandpassed like so:

high passed @40-50 Hz (so it doesnt bottom out easily)

low passed @ 2KHz or so...

3. NOT have a low range speaker (under 40-50 Hz). I'll try to live without sub bass, I eventually, with this setup, I could add a sub later on....

Does this make sense at all or am I missing something???

Don't do that....too much distortion to tweeters

Here is easy way...(I understand your view. I may end up doing something similar.

Get a four channel amp

Bandpass the Dayton Audio.

Then get a passive crossover

HP the midrange at near the cutoff point of the Dayton, then let the passive crossover LP the midrange while providing a highpass for your tweeters. EQ as necessary.

You idea is a bad one. I am trying to justify doing the same thing....except I will chose different parts.

Why would the tweets distort in low/mid listening levels?? They would be getting 23 rms from the builtin amp in my 9833 HU...

I meant to say "not a bad one"

HU internal amps generally provide in the neighborhood of around 5% THD. Sometimes more.
uhhhh Im pretty sure the 9833 is spec'd @ 1% thd or less... could someone back this up?

Regardless, why would drivin tweets from the internal amp cause distortion at normal listening levels (1hr commute, windows up)?? -- Arent tweets supposed to be pretty efficient and easy to drive??
