Silly Question? Make 4 ohm sub -> 2 ohm?

x2 you'd need a dummy load resistor the size of a VW bug to do it.

there is a way to do what you want. it is energy transformation. this is often done with a transformer. a transformer will allow the amp to put out 4V, 1A and for the speaker to get 2V, 2A. this is how power companies transmit voltage at 120kV or so and they bring it back to 120V for home use. an autoformer would also work for this purpose. an autoformer is similar to a transformer.

i think there are "accumatch" devices for this purpose that people have used with varying success.

These theoretically work, but I would worry about how the inductance of the transformer would color the sound.

Probably a safe prediction. I only remember Stinger and Veritas making the Accumatch transformers and I don't think that anyone makes them anymore. Every once in awhile, a set will pop up on eBay but you have to find exactly what you need with these.
