silicone + subs =???

some people say that the vapors that silicone puts off can damage sub components like the surround and somtimes even the cone.... i have never had any experience with this but i usually wait a good hour before i install my subs just to be on the safe side of things

When i made my computer sub (using a spare alpine type-s 4x6) i used a bunch of silicone to seal up the adapter plate i made to fit the 4x6 in a 6.5 hole, and seal the 4x6 against it. No problems.. though every time it hit, it smelled like *** for about a day (silicone stinks). no problems yet.

I used GE Silicone II to repair a surround on one of my SXs. No problems what so ever. It filled in the small tear and is completely unnoticable even to me. I pressed it into the surround from the inside and wiped off any excess. No deterioration occured.
