Si Mag...to port or to seal?

I would like an SQL setup (this is going to be a daily driver) and I have roughly 900-1000 watts to give this sub @ 1ohm.

Does this sub shine ported or sealed? If I tuned at lets say 20hz, would that retain all the benefits of a sealed box, but slightly louder? I know 28hz is incredibly low, but Ive heard people get severe peaks at their tuning frequency.

How loud would this setup be? I have no issues with space.

20hz would be way to low for a car. 29hz would be find and you would keep the sound your looking for. My mag is sealed for now until i get $$$ for a new ported box for my small reg cab truck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

It will shine sealed or vented. You will never get a peak AT your tuning frequency. As you lower the tuning, keeping the same size enclosure, you start to flatten the response. Generally, a flat response in a LOW tuned enclosure will elad to an exagerrated lowend once the driver and enclosure are loaded into the vehicle.

To keep the low end and still have the extra hump in the freq response I have always said that 34hz is a good tuning and I would go with the mid to high of what the manuf. recommends for ported box size.

Tuning in the 34-35Hz range, to my ears anyway, doesn't keep the LFE as much as a 27-28Hz tuning does. It sounds rolled-off and beginning to get peaky...but again, that's just what I hear.

Each app will be different. We don't all have big white vans with flowers on the side.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

with a FS nearly 10hz higher than the D9 line of subs...does its low end even compare?
There are many things that contribute to low end with FS being just one of them. The bigger the box and the lower the tuning the more low end you will have but a lot of it has to do with your vehicle and which way the sub is pointed. I usually port my boxes around 30 hz but it all depends on what you listen to and how much output you want.

Even if FS WAS the determining factor, let's do a comparion here.

Mag12 Fs: 30.2Hz. Diamond D9 12D2: 33Hz, 12D4: 34Hz

Mag15 Fs: 22Hz. Diamond D9 15D2: 24Hz, 12D4: 26Hz.
