other l7's now prone to frying

As some of you read in my other post my amp took a dump and took 1/3 of my l7's with it. Although the other 2 read fine w/ the multimeter they tend to have a slight burned smell. Is it possible they got by surviving and are quite prone to frying later on down the road or should I be fine?

I thought you might have some sort of idea about this polecat.

So therefore I shouldnt have any trouble with the two that do have the burnt smell as long as theres nothing to cause trouble with them.

Also im not sure if it was from clipping the amp. I had the subs wired wrong and ran them at .8ohms fine for 2 days. I then wired them correctly to 1.5ohms and about 2.5 min into playing a song things started to cook. Doesnt make sense why a 1,2,4 ohm stable amp would run at .8ohms no problem then die at 1.5.

I have noticed that with the L7's that when you are overdriving them or sending them clipped signals that they do not really give off warning signs like many subs do. Usually you can hear an odd sound/pop or the sq drops off but the L7's have strong mechanical power handling but the thermal handling is what you have to watch out for on the L7's the RMS is the RMS. This is why we see so many blown L7's in my opinion.

interesting theory havingfun
Yes, very interesting and somewhat suspicious. But seroiusly have you noticed that people on here often say "yeah the rms is 750 watts but mine can take 1500 watts all day no prob".....then the coil smokes one day and then you see the recone posts.

and that's why you see blown coils...the spec sheets are in there for a reason. But then again, I had 2660 going to my one 06 L712" ported, and I knew when to stop.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have noticed with mine that I can turn the gains up some on high bass (40hz+) and not experience any problems.. But if I am listening to a song with low bass (35hz and below) I can start to smell my L7.. I now know how to adjust my gains according to the type of bass in the song.. I dont like that smell! I have had this sub for 3 months and its still alive..

Which amp or amps where you running to get that much clean power?

yeah i had fun with my L7's, they were good subs to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif until i started getting careless and blew too many :-\

That is some good thinking. Overall I did push the subs pretty hard but never heard any distortion although I would smell an odd burning like smell here and there. Id turn down the volume and it would be fine and the center of the cone would feel a bit warm. I just thought it was the "glue melting" smell that the kickers are known for or so ive read.
