That number is one of the extremes. You can do alot to the system, on average I would say I charge about $80 to paint a case and controllers. My work is very detailed and I'll replace the cases if you're not happy.Oh, I'd never spend anything even remotely close to that. I might do some myself, but given the history of Xboxs, I doubt I'd bother considering mine will probably brick within a year.
Think about how much you would pay an audio shop per hour for work. Some of these cases take a few days to a week to complete. So $220 isn't too far out there. Just depends how bad you want the custom work done and done "right"lol at costing 220.
I'd seriously doubt you spent 40 hours working on any of those... a few hours here and there, time off, time to dry, etc., ok. But not 40 hours straight work.Think about how much you would pay an audio shop per hour for work. Some of these cases take a few days to a week to complete.
If you get pissed and toss your controllers, maybe so. lolNice, would look better if you had access to a cnc machine. But nice none the less, what kind of paint is used? looks like the paint might chip after awhile of spirited playing, specially madden '10
Those times are including everything you mentioned. You're not just paying for the time, but for the quality of work. I've seen some chop jobs from "professional" modders and they charge more than me minus the guarantee.I'd seriously doubt you spent 40 hours working on any of those... a few hours here and there, time off, time to dry, etc., ok. But not 40 hours straight work.
Which number are you referring to?Thats pretty steep for people on here, given that i do the same thing to computer cases and other things often, and can operate a dremel fairly well. id say 100$ including shipping and all would be a fair price for cutting a case, installing plexi and LEDs, fans whatever, and painting it. Think about it, thats only about 10$ worth of materials if that, plus a couple hours labor. However i charged a guy 100 bucks before for mounting a bass knob in his accesory panel. lol. All i did was drill a hole and use some hot glue, came out fresh. But im sure plenty of nerds will gladly spend that kinda money for that stuff.
Yeah i agree with you. That why I said $220 was an extreme. This guy had me do everything to his xbox except marry it and have kids...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif Trdoc is probably only thinking of the outter case, but it takes time to wire, install, remove and soilder lights, disassemble just about "every" piece of the case, face plate, hdd, cut a detailed design, putty to fill in imperfections, sand, clean, paint several coats, clear several coats (paying attention to every litttle crack and crevice), sand out any imperfections, paint and clear again, then reassemble.I was saying 220 is steep to people on here, considering the amount of work most of us do with our own vehicles. 100 would be a believable price. But people that dont know **** except how to play the xbox would probably pay that much.
I have pulled apart several Xboxs to work on the insides, specifically cooling issues. I know what's involved. I do realize how much time it takes to do certain things like paint, filling, soldering etc... I was just offering my opinion. I said I'd never pay that much to mod a box that is in it's very design a PoS and will likely die sooner than later. Not to mention that the platform is now what, 3 years old? And you're talking about spending as much on the mod as on the platform.: Trdoc is probably only thinking of the outter case, but it takes time to wire, install, remove and soilder lights, disassemble just about "every" piece of the case, face plate, hdd, cut a detailed design, putty to fill in imperfections, sand, clean, paint several coats, clear several coats (paying attention to every litttle crack and crevice), sand out any imperfections, paint and clear again, then reassemble.
And thats just the process for a simple case mod.
I agreed with this as well but didn't want to bring it up. Honestly, the Dremel work isn't up to par on some of those things... maybe that was his earliest work, but if I paid $200+ for that kind of stuff, it'd better be done by CNC. Just my NSHO.Cool idea for sure. But not to be a negative nancy the edges of the cutting needs more work. They need to be smoothed out more or something.
some people could say the same thing about modding a car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifi just dont get the point of it. who sits there and stares at their xbox all day? it would get old after looking at it for a minute.
