When I called, I was told to call back for Greg.

So I did, and he said he didnt know anything about them.

I figured the guy who runs/used to run RE would know something......I pm'ed him too, so we will see if he can shed some light.

if 1 is bottoming out.... they BOTH would be bottoming out. as ther eis only a problem with one.....

it woudl only bottom out and make a noise at full retracting OR full excursion. Yours seems by the video to make the noise as soon as the sub starts moving and it doesn't matter hwat frequency it is played at (this owuld be where the excursion/retraction comse into play"

well, after what RE said, i guess it cant bottom out but it sounded nasty

The sub only makes that noise at high volumes. I think what youre hearing is from the camera.

I was joking about emailing them......I wouldnt even get that type of response back. More like nothing at all, if they have stayed true to form.

I woudl think that the suspension would have come to full mech limits.

I think that is where in lies the point they cannot bottom out, they reach suspension limits before the VC will ever hit the bottom plate.

looking around the inner dustcap for it being loose.

You have to realize that for it to bottom the suspenion it has to move FAR... VERY FAR like nauc stated.

Pair of hc 12"s in 3.6 (yeah, for the pair) powered by an IA 20.1 at .5Ill PM you a link to the video, maybe you can see if it looks like what yours was doing?

Your single hc is in 3.6? Is that what RE recommends? I havent been able to get a straight answer on that.

ok depedning what you are tuned to (i modled my box 3.6 32 hz)

full excursion onnly happens at approx 21-23 hz.

And for it to bottom out, it would need to be at full excursion, correct?

When those videos were shot, it was at roughly 39hz.

I say roughly because the box was made for a pair of rl-ps, so there may be a difference in the amount of displacement.

id play them free-air, one at a time, to make sure one is bad

when you had them both hooked up, was one not moving much, its hard to tell in the vid

They both move the same amount.

One makes a horrible sound.

Mr. Sector, if it can only bottom out at full excursion, does that point to it being the inner dustcap?

Any other possibilities?

indeed....

OR something wrong INSIDE the motor(i cannot see this however as ther eis no scraping sound) ..... then you taking the dustcap off wont matter :/
