Shop tool essentials

For a woodworking shop I'd have the following....

Table saw

Circular saw

Jig saw

Router and table

sanders (palm, belt)

Cordless drill

Drill press

Scroll saw (not neccesary but are nice to have)

Thats just a couple things that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure other ppl will post up some that I forgot.

Metric nut drivers and allen wrenches. Torx bits, sockets, various screwdriver bits, one of those screwdriver attachments for the drill with the sleeve that covers the screws- keeps you from porting woofers. Putty knives, panel poppers, assorted wire strippers, wire cutters (big and small) soldering iron & solder, straight and 90 degree picks, ford keys, euro keys, DMM, air compressor and attachments, jump starter, a full set of screw drivers, heat gun, strip caulk, grommets, abs plastic...

... just to name a few

nice set, get some big limb cutters to cut big wire, i have a set with long handles on them, slices through 1/0 like nothing

dont get cheap wire strippers or cutters either, nothing pissed me off more thant that when working on the system

also grab a razor or one of the razor blade pocket knives

Drill press

band saw

a GOOD air compressor. Look elsewhere than HD for the compressor. Plan on paying a good bit for one, but you will thank yourself. Air tools you can do on the relative cheap but the compressor...

lots of different clamps

a couple of good cordless drills

spare batteries for the above

a good corded drill

If you want to get serious...

table mounted drum sander

bench grinder (get a polishing wheel for it or another one just for polishing)

bench mount disc/belt sander

good blades for all the saws

good drill bits

good router bits

dust collection system

shop vac

Lowe's now offers a portable compressor system that uses refillable CO2 tanks. It looks pretty nifty. The larger container can shoot ~500 staples. The replacement containers are ~$35 IIRC

Cost of kit is $99.00. It looks good for a place that didn't have the room for a compressor. A real compressor is a lot better.
