Shop question

Ok, my buddy is wanting to open a shop within the next five years, mainly because he wants to make sure he has the money to open one, on top of needing his own financial security. Anyways, my question is this. If you had to open a shop today, what five brands would you want to carry?

Now I have also thought about distributors which happen to carry a multitude of brands so getting in with that one distributor would give you access to those. But with that information set aside, what would you choose?

You can't carry those brands yo, it would kill he competition with the dbeeeeeeezzzz! But seriously, what would you carry?

If you can afford the investment; I would recommend factory direct brands

Most all of the good stuff doses not come from distributors

Any one can have the distributers brands, you will be in price wars with any and every one (pawn shops, feamarkets)

Fair enough, which is why if it was my choice, I would probably get the distributors as well as factory direct. Because in every market you have the cheapskates that just want something cheap to keep them happy. Distributors can help you get the cheap shit and then you can have the factory direct you can push the hell out of. I would personally push what I think would be best for the customer, and having a wide selection can help with that since you will have something for every customer's need.

Rule number 1: The customer is always right.

Rule number 2: **** the customer, they are stupid and have no idea what they really want.

I don't feel like searching. And it hasn't been done lately. Brands and people's ideas on brands changes daily, plus with the high influx of new members here, I am sure it would be better for me to post again.
