It appears Wiggles designed the drivers, but I dont know much about them yet. Devildriver and aneonrider bought one when they first came out, but the T/S was somewhat different then these versions and more suited for IB.

It clearly says on their website that Dan designed them. Im just wondering if this is the new Adire, or just another Robot Underground type of situation.

They do look nice on paper, Dan's speakers have always looked nice on paper.

Cool, keep us informed about your experience! I am thinking of replacing my two JBL 10s (cheap GTO line) with 1 Tempest ported.

Also, they are rated in terms of 600W max music power, not max RMS power. What does that translate to as far as an amp goes? (sorry me = n00b)

These are drivers from Kevin Haskins at Exodus Audio. Just for a bit of a background...Kevin and Dan have had a close relationship for several years. First of all, they were both running speaker businesses out of Washington. And Kevin's speaker kits under the Exodus Audio brand featured the Adire Extremis and the CSS FR125S, both drivers designed by Dan that feature XBL^2. Kevin has been working on drivers of his own for a while with Dan doing the lead engineering; this includes the EX-6.5 (a replacement of sorts for the Extremis) and the various subwoofers that he is wanting to bring to production.

The first batch were supposed to the Shiva-X and Tempest-X, but the suspension was too stiff and they were deemed the XJ-12 and XJ-15...great drivers for large sealed/IB applications. The new batch is the Shiva-X and Tempest-X as Kevin intended. The motor used on these drivers is very similar to the Brahma. Though Dan still plays a role in the engineering of these drivers (ADI is his company through which he is having continued success), Kevin is pretty capable on his own. Dan has strong connections with a couple buildhouses offshore that allow all of these XBL^2 companies to jump in at low risk with pretty high reward. And since he is now the sole licensee of the XBL^2 technology, all products must be approved by him in the end anyways.

So in short (or I suppose in very long), these aren't Dan's new speakers and this isn't Robot Underground either. These are legitimately well designed drivers under the Exodus Audio brand that are amongst the best value subwoofers on the market.

Kevin has other products in the works as well. He has a few speaker kits coming out using his EX-6.5 and a variant of the popular Peerless HDS tweeter (I know of the Kepler and the Tycho Brahe so far, with more not far off). The speaker kits are similar to the old kits from Exodus: led by a long throw 6.5" driver with great extension into the subwoofer range (particular in a MTM). I haven't heard the EX-6.5 yet but talks with Kevin have indicated it is an improvement in many ways to the Extremis. The EX-6.5 will not be available separately, though, but the CSS SDX7 (a very apt Extremis replacement) will be.

In addition to the speaker kits, Kevin is working on an XJ-18, a mid Q 18" driver with almost 33mm of Xmax in an XBL^2 motor. And he has a dipole speaker kit coming...and the Woofer Widget, an all analog signal processing solution. Lots coming from Exodus Audio in the future.

Now why are the drivers so cheap? For starters, they are made off-shore. The build quality is exceptional (I had an XJ-15...best driver out of the Orient I have had) but it is simply much cheaper to manufacture off-shore. And the number of reliable buildhouses in the US seems to be growing smaller all the time, with more of even their work being outsourced from the US for their clients. But most of all, Kevin is willing to take smaller margins on various products (like the speaker kits and subwoofers) as a way to draw users into his Woofer Widget and signal processing solutions. The signal processing stuff is aimed not only at his Exodus Audio products, but also as an OEM solution, so moving a lot of product and drawing some of those customers in is a good business plan for him. So he just takes smaller margins for a buzz and works towards what he really wants to do. For those in the home audio world who know about the Velodyne SMS-1, Kevin's signal processing is going to give that product a really good run for it's money.

Just thought I would clear up a lot of misconceptions about Exodus Audio that I have been reading in various spots on the internet.
