I have never found AM reception to be great. However with my W205 it didn't seem to be worse than anywhere else. Works better than my dads stock head unit in his truck so I can't complain. I don't use the AM band all that often though either.

FM reception has been bad on every alpine I have owned. AM has been even worse.

I can't say I've noticed it to be any worse than usual on my 9835...at the wavelengths you're talking about with AM broadcasts, a three foot or shorter antenna is basically there for show anyway.

Hmm... my FM reception is fantastic.... I just don't understand why the AM is so bad... would the HD tuner resolve this?

I have the same problem. I thought it was my last vehicle, but I just installed my alpine in my new 08 Sonata and it sounds like crap and I listen to mostly AM on my commute, sports talk and the sort.
