have a 1990 caddie deville and a ma audio 3000d and i just got my 15" ss rl-p in yesterday so i wired the dvc in parallel and droped her in the box and tured the music on she sounded awsome for about 45 mins. then my dash lights started to fade and then my hu started to turn on and off sparaticly and i pulled over to see what the hell was up and a smelt that smell that everyone dreads so i poped my trunk but nothing it was my hood i beleive it was my alternator frying and my new battery was leaking, so now i cant use my car because she does not start, and in the rare occasion that it does the lights dim and she stalls and has a massive electrical breakdown.

i have been planing to buy a new car anyway but how can i avoid this for my new car?

my amp is 1700w at 1 ohm would you suggest a new alternator? or any other electrical upgrades to stableize the electronics so this does not happen again. thanks chris

a bigger alternator should definitely help. 1700w is a lot for a stock alt. to handle, although it was been done.

You NEED to trouble shoot and find the problem! You can seriously damage electronics of your car with the way it is!! When adding more current draw(amps) to your elect sys. you may exceed it and it will fail. A higher output alt is the 1st thing to do. If your battery is leaking.....man get that looked at ASAP! Can you do stuff on your own? Got a meter?

1. measure the voltage of your battery with car off. good battery with car off will read 12.6volts. then measure with car on. check with your dealer to know what the voltage should read. All the cars I've had read above 13.5 volts. Doing this simple test I think will show you a problem will the alt. And if your battery is leaking, obviously replace that as well. Do NOT lollygag. Do it NOW!
