shipping a subwoofer

place the sub inside a large plastic bag. tape it closed nicely so water cant get it.

get a foam pool noodle. slice it down the middle - and then wrap it around your sub / cut off the exes leingth.

get some nice foam padding for the motor. - fill the sides up with some cardboard / foam / packing penuts.. ext.

use a good strong cardboard box for your sub. tape it securely. dont skimp out.

then get another strong cardboard box and double it up. yes

dont risk damage.

when its all said and done

you should not feel like your sub would survive droping your box from 24 inches high to the floor.

Couldn't have said it better

yeah i was gonna wrap it with a bag and then fill the voids with spandy foam and put some about 1" layer of cardborad under it to protect the motor and the top the pipe insulation on the top like everyone uses the noodles

Really? I would want it TO SURVIVE a drop like that

i have seen some use 2x4 in the corners to protect from a top down drop i guess ..also who is better usps ups fed ex not even gonna ask dhl they fcked everything i have gotten from them

would pipe insulation be good as or better then the noodle or should i use the nooodle ...the thing im more worried about is the motor the basket can be repleace cheap the motor is the vital part...would card board work under the motor or should i get some 1" styfoam

They delivered my dad's 50" sony bravia to the wrong house , AND THOSE PEOPLE SIGNED FOR IT AND TRIED TO KEEP IT!!!!

also on a box i figure 18x18x? from motor to rim is 8.5 - 9" i thought about a 10-12"tall box so i can have foam and card board above and bellow the sub

Go to Home Depot, Menards, Lowes etc... buy some 2" thick foam (4'x8' is like $10) and you're good to go. I have used it for subs, alternators, batteries, amps, speakers etc... pretty much anything up to 100lbs~ on some of the packages. No issues yet.

Actually just shipped a battery and an alt. this morning using this method. battery has 4" (two layers) all the way around it, alt. only had a single layer but that is more than enough. UPS just requires 2" of packaging on all side for it to be covered by their insurance. Heavier items, I always got 2 layers all the way around though.

For subs... I cut two pieces the same size as the bottom of the box. shove one all the way to the bottom of the box, take the other and cut a hole in the center the same size as the motor, put that on in next. Throw the sub in a garbage bag or something and drop it in the box so the motor fits snuggly into the hole you cut out of the second piece of foam. then cut four pieces for each side of the box and slide them in. cut a coule (as many as you need) pieces to fit inside the basket to get it as close to flush as possible. cut another piece for the top (same size as the very bottom piece) drop it in and you are good.

I had an old POS power acoustik sub I packaged this way. We LITERALLY dropped it off my roof (about 20ft~) and it was just fine. threw it down the stairs and it was still fine. Of course, this was a 30lb~ subwoofer probably, nothing crazy heavy...

well i was going to use the spandy foam to support it more it would have no way to move in any way...its a 18" sub should i get a box wider or get one 20" ...i had some wheel boxes my wheels came in but they got tosses

if you plan to insure it, UPS and FedEx both have a minimum of 2" packaging material on all sides for it to be covered. you say 18" subwoofer and the box is 20", they won't cover it. You can pay for as much insurance as you want but without the 2" on all sides, they will tell you to **** off...

as for boxes, I like to use toilet tank boxes... they are THICK and you can usually get them for free from home repair type places...

its always cheaper to ship in 1 box but not always safe. you will get them shipped to you in 2 seperate boxes. personally would wrap each motor really good and divide a box and ship both motors together. then ship both baskets together in another box.

ALWAYS put insurance on shipping a item. even if you package correctly they can break it, it covers ur a$$ for a little more coin...
