What is your budget? I know of some increadably nice 8's... but they cost 1200 for the pair (neo, lmt tech, only 2 ever made)

JL has several lines built right here in the USA.

And being built overseas doesn't automatically make something a worse product.

IMO from a purely asthetic standpoint, the RL-i8's look MUCH better than the DD 1508s

I've always liked the RL-i8's... With box rise I assume the woofers will be closer to their RMS if I run them in parallel @ 1 ohm.
If I make a slot ported box and tune them low, will they still be able to reach sufficiently low for daily music?

Hell yea they do. I got mine in a vented box tuned low and I swear they'll put some 12's out there to shame.
