Just for clarification, the titles don't have to be exactly like Rome or Band of Brothers...in fact they don't even have to be series, whatever you consider to be at their level in terms of character and plot development. I have found that due to their incredible length, these series have been able to convey vivid worlds/cultures/societies/what have you, multi-dimensional characters, intricate subplots, and complex stories with ease...similar to that of a novel. The flaws of most popular films/series is horribly evident when compared to these productions...the insistence in traditional shows that I as the viewer have ADHD (1 minute attention span), no appreciation for character development or comprehension of complex plots, and lack for a better expression "mentally stupid" have caused me to demote the act of viewing to merely a social experience rather than a personal one. For me these two productions have provided an incredibly atypical yet deeply satisfying and refreshing experience...and with Band of Brothers being a single series and Rome being cancelled for financial reasons...I'm in need of a new outlet to satiate this higher standard these series have impinged upon me.
Cliffnotes: Productions like transformers/300 are fun, but I'm looking for something intelligent...less focus on "wow" and more on the story.
Series: I picked up the first season of Sopranos at Bestbuy (50% off all first season HBO series) and just got finished watching the first episode. My impressions are excellent thus far...I have found Tony's fascination with the family of ducks quite humorous (no spoilers please).
Movies: Also picked up the Directors Cut Version of Requiem for a Dream...Holy ****ing Shit...enjoyed it thoroughly. This movie is definitely going to be with me for a while.
