Selling W7, need new system

Alright, well as you know I have a 10W7 that I have for my RX-7, but the setup is just too heavy for me and the trunk of the RX-7 is VERY small so doing a custom setup for it is a PITA so I'm going to sell my 10W7 and go with all eD system or other suggestions.

I already have eDi 6500's, Nine.2, Nine.2x so I'll have 600W @ 4ohms

What I'm looking to get out of the system is ideal SQL. The 10W7 was perfect for the SQ.

I can get 1.52ft^3 BEFORE displacement of sub/port (if I port) and was wondering what kind of setup you guys would suggest.

I've had e15K's before in my blazer (the e cone) and I loved them. I haven't had an eD sub since.

I'm thinking maybe a single 13Ov2 ported, or 11Ov2 ported or sealed/ported 11Kv2 or 9Kv2's or EU-700's the setups are plenty or anything else that's out there.

Not looking to spend more than $250 for subs. The less money the better of course. I would like to get greater SPL than the 10W7 and try to keep the same SQ or close to it.

I'd also like to keep the weight down as far as the system goes. The 10W7 and sealed box were just simply too much weight. If there is any way, I'd like to keep the whole setup as light as possible, meaning I'll probably have to fiberglass rather than MDF setup.

The max dimensions of the box will be

26" long, 18" deep, and 8" high, and the sub(s) will be firing up so the subs cannot be very deep subs.

I like tight bass that hits you in the chest, like kick drums basically, and will blend smoothly with the 6500's. The 10W7 did a great job of doing that, but it seems like it was missing that punch to the chest on quick hits.

I listen to everything except country so the subs are going to have to take on a lot of different kind of music. Needs to be able to hit bass lines for rap, quick hits from rock, and blend well with my fronts for all other types of music.

Thats what the setup looked like temporarily with the 10W7. I was going to build a new box in order to make it fit below the strut bar but it was just too much work, so now I am changing the whole setup so it's all going to lay flat and fire up towards the hatch window like this...

How would this sound firing up though?

Amps will be going along the bottom like they are now and sub(s) will be above it.

So let me get this right.

You want something louder than one of the best 10" subs there is, but you want it to hit harder, yet retain similar SQ, while costing you less than $250?

I think you're in for a tough search.. especially if weight matters that much.

By the way, anyone who really cares about weight so much they'll replace a w7 shouldn't have a system at all. I said this in the prior thread you made about this.. It's in your head. Show me a 1/4 mile run with any significant difference with the sub in and the sub out.. and I'll gladly agree the weight wasn't in your head.

But if you insist, given your restrictions, I'd recommend something from ID. As for diamond, I've heard their top of the line 10" sub in a guy's rx8.. I was less than impressed. Dissapointed was more like it... I'd also suggest a 10w6v2, but you'll lose SPL, a new one will cost more than $250, and it'll only weigh a few pounds more at the most.

it would sound amazing pointing up at the hatch.....gets very very loud that way....my friend had 12" type s setup like that and they were super loud
really? I've found this type of setup to yield less SPL. Though it does provide the subs a quicker route to your ears, it always sounded less loud to me pointing up.

Look into the Lightning Audio Storm subwoofers. They are somewhat weight conscious with them, and you can buy a neodymium motor which is smaller, Lighter and more potent. The SQ and SPL of the sub is up there with the best of 'em too.
I'd like to try and stay away from Lightning Audio, but thanks for the suggestion!

Please. Keep your W7. There's ample reason why it's regarded as the best subwoofer on the market.

Based on what you've said, I would recommend a component set with better midbass (i.e. Seas Lotus).

However, if you are intent on downgrading, then the DIY Mobile Audio Reference 12" would be a great choice.

I know the W7 is the best sub out there, it's just I do not have the space for this sub in my trunk. The biggest box I can get out of my hatch is 26" long, 18" deep, and 8" and that's to take up the rest of the hatch and I don't want the sub box to just take up the whole hatch like that. If it was to take up the whole hatch, I'd have the subs firing up, and the W7 is taller than the 8" that I can allow.

Why don't you give my man Marv a call @ 831-383-0308. I think he'll be able to help you out with a box more than I can since he has A LOT of experience building custom boxes for W7s...

Also, would it be an option to mount your amps elsewhere?

It still amazes me that people need this much SPL. I have the two 12W6V2's and with the PG 1200.1, it is all I can handle. Some songs actually cause pain! I switched to the JL sealed box and it has less SPL but is more accurate. Again though it is MORE than enough SPL. Each his own, but SQ is my thing, with some SPL mixed in. I know this isn't helping your question but good luck with your search.
