second batteries vs. powers caps and why?

cap stores power and then on low bass notes when the amp needs the power the cap feeds it the power, then it has to recharge again which puts more stress on the electrical system

Ok if I sound like a total tard I'm sorry. But wouldn't a second battery cause stress on your electrical system as well? Seeing as your alternator would have to keep two batteries charged instead of just one.

yes and no, with a cap it basically takes all the power it has stored, so you have to recharge the whole cap.

with a battery, it doesnt drain the battery, it only takes a portion of its power so it will be less strain to charge 1.5 volts into a battery then to charge 14 volts into a cap.

off topic, but i hear how awesome those sundown amps are, and take little current, are u seeing any voltage drops with your setup?

battery has more current capacity, basically on a long bass note it can render a cap useless in a weak electrical system. a cap can help if the battery/batteries stay charged and the alt is up to the task. A cap will keep the voltage up a tad but when it gets taxxed becomes more worthless, not only that but a caps ESR will play a huge role in how it performs or even if it does perform (some caps are worthless).

Are there any specific batteries I should look into for the trunk? Or if I go with another red top should I be OK?

i havent started my build yet, but when i had my 1500d running off a kinetik 1800 up front with big 3 done, i dropped to about 13.4 from 14.1 volts @ 1 ohm nominal. very efficient amps. im hoping for less drop with my new setup.
