Looking for some help on a size sealed box for an Alphasonik 800series 10", 800W RMS, and displacement of .16. The book says .5-1.25 cu/ft but my local guy says its too small and 2cu/ft would be a minimuim-that seems huge for a sealed 10".

any help would be appreiated .

Yes, I went with his experienced advice and put it in a 2cu sealed box, he tuned my amp for the break-in and it blow in about 15 minutes of moderate volume. It makes a popping sound even at low volumes. I didnt smell anything? I picked it up right when he closed last night and he wont be open till tuesday. I really have no idea what happened?

wonderful. I wanted it in a 1cu box-which the company recomends but he said it wouldnt sound good.

Guess Ill make a smaller box and return it to him.

Thanks for your help

Ported was my intention, I have a 1.35cu ported box that I was going to use. The Alphasonik 2010 book didnt list the box specs so I didnt relize that there minium ported was 2.0cu. I could make one but i was told that a ported box has to be at least 15" depth-front to back, to get 2+cuft my trunk would be useless to family life. I had my 1.35 hinged to swing to the front of the trunk only taking up 11"- nice setup but its .8cuft too small for the sub.

Now my plan is the back seat floor in about 1.15cu sealed. I would much rather have a ported setup.

Yes the manual says 2.0cu is the minimum. Seems really big - what would the disadvantage in using a ported box .65cuft smaller than suggested by manufacture?

It is a pretty big 10- .156 displacement and it weighs about 30lbs or more.

Thanks for any help.

The question is whether ot not the manufacturer even knows what they're doing. Maybe the 2ft^3 is before sub/port displacement, like I have seen others do.

Good point. Im going to call them tomorrow and talk to there "tech".

Could I blow the sub by having it in a smaller box?

The port is roughly 1.5"-13" slot if that matters.

I notice that you design boxes, how would you go about it with no or false info on the specs?

Thanks again.

Without any real t/s specs it's kinda hard, unless you can find other people who have used it. For a normal 10" sub, 1.25-1.5ft^3 with a tuning in the30-33hz range work well, but you never know what this sub mayb really like. Your port area seems fine if you're referring to it being 13" x 1.5" x X" deep.
