Anyone know how well SD cards store and work in headunits? I dont wanna use my ipod but cds are a pain and my new jvc headunit accepts SD cards.

So if anyone can point me in the direction of a good SD card for music or even if there worth it.

Thanks

FYI, any song converted to a file type is going to lose quality.

I dont know of a bad SD card (i believe they should all work fine)

the best thing to do is use CD's.

Either way it sounds liek you will use a SD card. i have about 4 different sd cards i use for various items that i carry music on, they have all worked great.

correct me if im wrong, but as long as the song has a decent bitrate, shouldnt it sound decent if i was coming off of a burned CD or a SD card? this is assuming that this wasnt a 128kbps song converted to a 512 or something, but an actualy high-bitrate song.

in other words, i dont think it wil be any worse than a burned CD or an ipod

It will still sound good as long as the new bitrate is high but either way, the technicals of it is... everytime you convert a file you lose quality. It may not be extreme for 1 convert but try converting a song 5-6 times and then compare the music to the CD.

if you have subs then you should here the difference right away.

The SD card slot on your headunit will have less noise than the CD. I run a JVC AR-8500 with the SD card slot and I rarely listen to CDs. I don't even know if one is in there right now. If you have the same or similar unit, it may have an extra DC/DC converter that will cause all sorts of noise if it's near your RCAs while playing CDs but it doesn't affect the SD source at all.

I found with my headunit, it doesn't like Micro SD cards (I have four 2 gig micro SD cards and only two work). I also have had trouble getting my 2 gig SD card to work; it will read some files fine and then it won't read other ones and it shows up as "read failed" and kicks to CD mode. The 1 gig SD cards work great so that's what I'm sticking with. I don't know if your unit will be the same but take my experience with it into consideration.

1 gig SD cards are cheap as hell too:

I have been thoroughly impressed by mine as far as sound, features, and navigation goes. It's very logical and easy to use. The build quality is very nice too; it's way tougher than my Eclipse 8445 and sounds just as good.
