Scoliosis

AHHHHH i got it. use the sheet as a "sling" if you will right? if thats right then i understand now and will get to work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Sling is a good term to use I guess.

Think of it as a back brace. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Makes you keep your posture straight.

No guarantees if it'll work for you though, but I know it has helped with my leg pain.

Some other things that helped was electric stimulation with something called a "tenz unit". It sends electrical impulses through your leg to stimulate the nerves

http://www.naimco.com/tenz_200_unit.html

I used to get some REAL bad aches and shooting pains in my leg, along with numbness after standing up from a sitting position while eating or driving. That pain/numbness has since decreased since therapy and the electrical stimulation. Now I'm just trying to get my flexibility back with the exercise and nerve flossing.

I've been to a chiropractor once, and he wouldn't even see me. I, too, have scoliosis. I was told once I get my insurance back, I should either look into getting surgery done, or wear a brace to hopefully correct my back, but with the brace, I would have to wear it 24/7. If it's not treated in some way or another there is a chance that IF your have extreme scoliosis, your ribs can puncture internal organs. When I first found out, the school nurse was testing the whole school, and once I got tested, I had to get taken out of school and 'rushed' to the hospital. When I stand straight, I can actually see how badly my curvature is, I'd say it's about 20 degrees off. That's not my only back problem though, my mom (nurse) is thinking that my spine is fusing to my tail bone, which she has and it's genetic... I can't lift over 50lbs anymore. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

yea, sling is the only thing i could think of to describe it lol. but yes not quite a sling or course.

im also not expecting it to work. i find if i dont expect to get shit out of it, i never get disappointed when it doesnt help. and when it does help, im more excited then if i expected it to work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ive heard about teh electrical impule thing from bonesninja as well. not sure if he used it, but there was some info about it in his back pain thread i believe.

thanks for the info bro!

Well, I feel a lot better knowing that I'm not the only young person on this forum with some serious back problems. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I must say, it sucks ***. I think back problems are the worst because in reality it affects your whole body.

not to mention the fact that when i tell people i have back problems they dont believe me at first because im only 21. and then when they realize i do have problems, they are surprised as hell.

Anything to help man. I know how shitty back problems can be.

If I do end up going back to therapy and learning some new things, I'll be sure to let you know.

That's probably the most common response I get when I tell people I have back problems.

"You're too young"

No, but I'm probably the person you're thinking about, 'cause I still have to have all my teeth pulled. I have VERY bad luck. I'm suffering from depression, and social anxiety, so I have the hardest time getting up the nerve just to go into the doctor's office, and even calling the doctor. My heart races, and feels like I'm going to have a heart attack. I have severe back problems, and my teeth of course, and extremely bad, some I can't even get pulled, they have to drill them out. They had never been so bad, until I started brushing my teeth everyday. I'm not sure if it's the toothpaste or not, but I use to brush my teeth about 3-4 times a week, just to keep my teeth clean, and once I started brushing them daily, they have been breaking apart, and become just holes in my gums.

I have mild Scoliosis, first found out in middle school when they had people test the whole school, but I have had it for years prior to that not knowing what the deal was. I noticed that the side of the curvature on my back has more muscle and if you run your finger down my back, you can feel the curve.

I have been having problems with my right foot and leg and not to long ago when I went to the doctor, she explained to me that because of the Scoliosis my left leg is longer than my right leg about .5 to a full inch. She told me that this could have been treated when I was little, but I am 27 now and she said the only option would be surgery where they straighten my spine and place a rod back there to keep it that way. When she told me this I was kinda pissed at my parents for not picking up on this problem when I was younger.

Now there are days when I come home and the right side of my back is killing me and nothing helps remedy the pain and my right foot hurts because its taking an unbalanced load. Im not to big on the idea of someone cutting my back open and playing with my spine, but if it will get rid of this pain Im all in.

Hope all you guys with this problem get taken care of, I literally feel your pain.

I have known about my scoliosis for a few years and usually doesnt bother me too much, but today my back is ****ing killing. The pain is intense today, I don't know if it is because the weather changed or what, but I want to know if anyone else on here has this problem and how they are dealing with it. I have to go to the store in a little bit to pick up a few things which I am absolutely dreading, but I was wondering if Icy Hot patches would help with the pain?
my gf has it......... 1 shoulder is higher than the other lolNbehold!!!

**** man. thats shitty.

just try to take it in stride is my best advice.

Osgood-Schlotter's disease (not a true disease) is essentially just inflammation of the patellar tendon when inserts into the tibia, cause from stretching during growth spurts, essentially. Usually symptomatic in the teens. Most common in taller males, although I'm only 5'10" and I had it. Treated just with NSAIDs (anti-inflammatories) like Advil, Aleve, or Tylenol for pain control. In other words, don't sweat it, you'll likely grow out of it. Seldom does it ever require anything else.
As for your scoliosis, you'll just need another spinal xray where they do that big long shot of your spine, they measure the angles between the curvature of your spine. Once it gets beyond a certain point, then they start talking surgery. If it's been a few years and they were talking about it already, and you haven't been able to go to physical therapy, you may be a better surgical candidate for it.

Everything else sounds likely related to pain.

Good luck.
yeah I first found out that I had osgood schlotter's disease when i was about 15, that was shortly after I had tendinitis. Ever since that happened my knee has bothered me and I had a big lump below my knee cap. So i went to the doctor and they said it was osgood.

I took several x-ray's and they said a bunch of stuff about curvature and what not. I believe they said I had mild scoliosis. They said it was the lower part of my spine was starting to curve kinda like an S or something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif IDK iam hated going to the doctor and still do, but looks like I prolly better get back in there before it gets worse.

The pain is still pretty bad today, but nothing like yesterday.

I was looking for a heat pad earlier yesterday morning before making the post, but I couldn't find it. I know we have one some where. that would be heaven to me lol
