Having this discussion is important, because our beliefs shape our actions; if we want to make sure that our actions are justified, we should begin with our beliefs. Only through exposure to other ideas and a variety of arguments will you be able to make a fair assessment of whether you are justified in holding your belief. There is nothing wrong with having this conversation (or one about politics); it's only wrong when you converse in a vitriolic manner. Be willing to hear the other person's argument and do your best to judge their arguments (and your own) with an even-keel, reasonable mind.

With respect to the existence of Christ, there are no physical artefacts. The historical references can be broken into two categories: 1) Biblical, 2) Extra-biblical. I think it goes without saying that I am suspect of the bible's legitimacy on any claim that has not been confirmed extra-biblically, in the same way that I look for unbiased information for all other claims.

The two best extra-biblical historical references to Christ are excerpts from Josephus and excerpts from Tacitus; these two were historians writing after Christ's death. Both of those references are a little shakey in their authenticity, make fairly brief mentions of him, and unfortunately do not in any way confirm Christ's divinity.

As for "there wouldn't be scientists without god" or "god made science", both of those claims are simply false. Both are assumptions or assertions, not demonstrated claims by any means (since god himself is not demonstrated). Further, science is a method of understanding the natural world that man, very clearly, has constructed. Science is not a thing that can be made; it is a thing that is done or thought about.

i am puerto rican, BUT, my parents had NO influence on my beliefs. NONE. we actually believe differently sometimes. i have been in a christian school all my life. like i said we all have beliefs. we will all see some day who was right. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif and yes i AM a Christian. not catholic. i dont believe in catholic beliefs
Your parents had NO influence?

So when you were 5 years old, out of nowhere, you told your parents to take you to christian school over public school so you can learn about Christianity?

It's not worth arguing with people who don't see the huge flaws in their own argument, yet still assert it to be true.

There is also countless bibles stating that he did exist, mine is mine and yours is yours
That is insignificant. Every bible says the same thing. Except for different versions, which are translations to the KJV. Hell, even the King James Version of the bible isn't the actual thing, it's what he wanted it to be, thus creating Protestantism.

So, you went to a christian school for your whole life, and your parents had nothing to do with that?

^^ hes right. and only God can save others into believing in him to be a christian...not us. we are just his witnesses. we bring others closer to him by showing them the way..
science vs the bible isnt a debatable topic..

bible = the truth the light and the way

science = well...God made science..he made us and everything around us.
Yeah, and Elvis never did any drugs.

Not THE way, its YOUR way.

science vs the bible isnt a debatable topic..
It definately is. Its a debate about how life came to be, and how the universe came to be. Scienece uses testable theories that demonstrate its validity, religion plays off that warm and fuzzy feeling of "whats feels right in your heart". Its most definately debatable, but you are going to wait to say its apples to oranges because you dont have any facts, reasoning, or logic to back up your side of the arguement.

bible = the truth the light and the way
Prove it. I could also say that science is the truth, the light, and the way, with absolutely no proof to back it up. That doesnt make it true.

science = well...God made science..he made us and everything around us.
Thats not a legitimate argument. You cant say "Well God made science, so Im right!". PROVE it. This is about proof. And to prove something, you need an ubiased scientific test. First, start with proving there is a God. I dont have a complete knowledge of the universe. Maybe there is a supreme creator that put us here? Who knows. Its possible, but it cant be tested, so nobody will ever know. What I do know is that any of the world religions (including yours) has no proof to back up their claims. Their claims arent even believable. If I was going to try to pull a fast one on the world, at least make it sound like it might be true. Noahs Ark? Adam and Eve? Immaculate Conception? Parting a sea? Ive heard more believable things in superhero movies.
