School me on relays...

So I found a diagram for An application that im doing and it shows me how to wire up a relay. But in the diagram it shows a relay with the following posts numbers.......

----87

85-87a-86

----30

Now I have about 3 relays at home but on the back of 2 of them it shows these following posts numbers...

----87

86-87a-85

----30

and the last one show the same as above but has no marking of ''87a'' in the middle, just a 87. Mind you the middle post is not used in this app anyway..

With that being would I have to buy new relays that match the post number markings in the diagram?

85 and 86 are the coil add a switch to either to control the relay.

So that means I can can use the relays I have now?

Basically, It dont matter which side 86 and 85 are on? They do the same thing?

85 is connected to the ground of the triggering voltage.

86 is connected to the positive 12V of the triggering voltage.

Taken from P/E

Test it by connecting this way, if you hear a "click" when voltage is applied it works.

it doesnt matter which side 85 and 86 are on and it doesnt matter if 85 or 86 is positvie or negative. just know you need a ground on one and power on the other to energize the relay.

Ok the reason for asking is because in the diagram in the link below, notice the 85 is on the left and 86 is on the right. and the relay I got at home the 86 is on the left and the 85 is on the right.

And notice here in this diagram below the 86 is on the left and the 85 is on the right(like the one i got at home). So that made me think there were 2 different type of relays.
