Say goodbye to your HD-DVD players, Blu Ray is here to stay...

Sony has done something similar back in the day.

Sony invented Beta-Max. It's competition was VHS. Although BetaMax was better than VHS, VHS won out overall because of Sony's poor marketing strategy. They kept their technology proprietary, so you could only buy a Sony Betamax player. This is the same flaw that allowed PC's to beat Macs.

However, because someone mentioned that their parents bought a Panasonic or something-other-than-Sony-brand player, I guess Sony has changed their strategy.

I was banking on HD DVD until I saw that post.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif just got the hd drive for my xbox... I've noticed more BR available at the stores too.
how do you like it? I've been wanting one ever since I got my new tv a month ago. It has a lot of good reviews but I just want more input. What kind of TV do you have btw?

i thought i heard a couple months ago that hd dvd and BR were going to merge and be available on the same disc. did this idea go away or are they still thinking about it?

I still see HD-DVD winning on the video front as it has more features while Blu Ray may win on the PC front for data storage.
What are these features?? From the reading that I've done it seems that BlueRay is a better format. BluRay discs are capable of PCM 5.1 uncompressed surround sound while I don't think ANY Hd-dvds have that. That alone is enough for me to choose bluray. Also the fact that MGM and 20th Century Fox are both bluray exclusives. I don't know. I don't even own an HDTV yet so it's pretty obvious I'm waiting this war out.

Does everyone else remember that standard DVD-Video that we have today almost suffered the same fate as these 2 formats?? Sony/Phillips were fighting with everyone else on the standards for the DVD. That format was almost released as 2 different formats. I swore up and down back then that I would NOT buy any DVDs if that happened, luckily they agreed and NOW look at the success it has had. Why they couldn't learn from that lesson is beyond me. There was sooooo much money to be made by both sides if they would have just pulled their heads out of their *****. They're soooo worried about burrying the competition they totally forgot about the bottom line...............making money.

They're a bunch of greedy idiots and it wouldn't bother me if BOTH formats failed.

Just an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif I bought the parents an HD-DVD player for xmas and was looking for movies, Walmart has nearly 3x as many blu ray titles as hd titles. I think thats a good sign, unless the stock is tailored to the locality, which means blu ray > hd dvd here
