Sattelite Radio?

With you being in California, HD radio should be available to you unless you live in a small town in the middle of nowhere (like here in Mississippi, lol). Here is a link to information on HD receivers:
What You Need to Know about HD Radio

With all accessories you add on to components in a system, there will be upsides and downsides. I am not sure of the coverage area around you, there will be a charge for equipment (not expensive) but it's supposed to sound pretty good and it's technically free(unlike satellite radio). But you can't customize it say, like, Pandora, or the genius setting on an Ipod. It's just radio, just cleaner and free. I hope this helps you out some Bro!!
and finally a reply that matters, thanks, ill have to read that when i wake up.

im from niagara falls canada, so im sure theres some good signals around here, thanks.

well this is my deck

http://www.jvc.ca/en/consumer/product-detail.asp?model=KD-R620

so im guessing i need one like in the post with HD in it, or buy an adapter for $80

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_070HDM90/Dual-HDM90.html?tp=134

am i right, or would i be better off buying another deck? ( ive kinda wanted a dvd flip screen, althought im not sure yet if those are good for car audio systems(guessing they are )

also, will my deck support 2 amps? and do i only amp my component set in front, or the back too?

thanks

You're very welcome. If you need help making an informed decision, please don't hesitate to ask! There are plenty of knowleagable people here who are happy to help. And I kinda hope you get a build log started for all of us who love Pics!!!

thanks, and yes i need help making an informed decision //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif, not sure if i need to update my deck before purchasing a component set, if i do then i will have to find a deck first, but if not i plan to get a component set and do that first, and get the radio after that.

thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well you have a lot of options when it comes to upgrades, but the most important factor in everything is what are you wanting your system to do for your? Are you planning on running multiple subs and bang them all the time, are you planning on just using a sub for reinforcement? Would you rather go the route of a SQ install? The awesome part is anything you want to achieve is possible! And it probably won't cost as much as you think! Well, I am gonna try to address some of your concerns already expressed and maybe ask a couple questions to help others get into the conversation and hopefully give you some alternate ideas.

With your current Source unit,(JVC 620) you have 2 sets of preouts (2 front & 2 rear, or 2 front & 2 sub RCA outputs) This means you will mean be able to add a 4 channel amp for speakers(all 4 speakers no sub), or a 2 channel amp for highs in the front and a subwoofer amp in the back, this is utilizing just the RCA outputs. This might get a little confusing, but I will put out as many options as I can think.

You could run a passive component set off the front RCA's and run your rear speakers off the headunit's rear speaker outputs(not the RCA's) and still run a sub setup off the rear RCA outputs. I personally like this option because it utilizes more of your source unit's features.

The add on HD tuner you have linked above will not work with your current head unit (or I don't think it will) so if you want HD radio, you will have to buy a source unit with it included, or a source unit that allows you to add an expandable HD radio unit. This of course will add to the cost, but from what you have said you needed these will be some good budget friendly options which include the necessary features to get what you would want:

Kenwood KDC-HD548U CD receiver at Crutchfield Outlet

If you still want to stay with JVC

JVC Arsenal KD-AHD65 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Pioneer DEH-P7400HD CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Sony CDX-GT700HD CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

These of course not your only options, but a good place to start. The more information you give about your needs, the easier it will be to narrow down what product will fit the best. When it comes to car audio, there is a way to get whatever you would like, but requires a little patience and time. Your a cool customer, so i suspect after other people get on board to help you out, even more options will become available and you will probably end up with exactly you want!!

wow thanks so much for the reply, and answering all my questions.

im not super familiar with all the preouts and whatnot, but from my understanding i have 2 like you said, so i can get a component set in the front, buy a 2 channel amp, and have my fronts amped with a set of rcas, and unplug the backs? or leave them plugged in?(or your saying i can wire them right to the deck?)

and still use my current rcas to run my sub amp like i am doing.

if so that part is pretty well understood (besides the back speaker part)

as for the HD radio, i am going to wait on that one i suppose, i would like a nice dvd flip deck in the future(im guessing those work just like normal decks right? and come with hd(some). . i want to get better sounder speakers and get an amp for them first before i get into the "hd radio",i was just curious for future purchases.

now since your so helpful i will elaborate like i already have in my other topics but failing to recieve the walk-thru that i need haha.

im in the midst of looking for a component set, $200 in my paypal, willing to pay the rest.

i have found the above 2 on my own, and need an opinion on them, and which i should get ( or maybe another set somewhere else ) cause im not sure what to look for really, i just want something loud, and nice quality.

right now ive got the 4 awg kit ran, and i have this kit thats probably going to be installed this week sometime,( please give feedback on the kit and fuses and let me know if its also okay for my setup, or i should upgrade the fuses(thanks))

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/390367819196?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

what i want from my system is a nice loud system(pretty much lol) but also nice sounding, i pound my subs pretty much all the time when im driving ( id like to turn them up more once this kits installed, the gain is 4/12 and im pretty sure it could go up some more ( i was just blowing my 80A fuses before when it went to like 6) but at the same time i need some speakers to match it.

also i will need some tips on installing a component set once picked(and made sure itll fit) im not sure what "cross-overs" are for, and really all that jazz lol, and the tuning part, is that done through the deck? lol

i also have many vibrations but ive contacted this don guy, who is going to help me with that part of it :p

anyways, whatever you can fill me in on is greatly appreciated

thank so much

This man's right. I have to apologize CButs. I had a very very bad experience with satellite radio and it caused my to not recommend it though it might be something that could be right for you. Sarellite radio offers many selections of music , sports, and news. I will say to read the fine print very carefully and make sure you know about the renewal process.
Smartphone + vehicle dock + pandora app = unlimited infinitely customizeable radio stations = pure sexxx
This is something I am interested in too. I am just not sure how it would work. @bubbagumper6 do you know how this service works? I can't seem to find any information about it and I don't know anybody that uses Pandora this way.
wow thanks so much for the reply, and answering all my questions.

There are countless ways to hook up the speakers and subs. The headunit you have has 4 RCA outputs(these are to add ease of connection to external amplifiers) and you have 4 speaker outputs which are amplified by the headunit. You can use combinations of these 8 speaker connections to achieve the desired speaker combination. Depending on your speakers you choose, the outputs can be used the way you need them.

if so that part is pretty well understood (besides the back speaker part)

There are a multitude of options when it comes to headunits. A good thing to know is that most newer model headunits have the ability to connect most all aftermarket additions (satellite radio, HD radio, Bluetooth, ect) so all you have to do is buy the option you want and plug it in without a bunch of new wiring. This helps in several ways, it helps you get ONLY the features you want, and it keeps cost down. But you could always buy the most expensive and get everything in one shot.

Both of these sets are okay to run and you shouldn't have any problems. But some key differences are the impedance and power handling. The XXX are 2 ohm loads and thhe Alpines are 4 ohm. The XXX are utilizing 2 inch voice coils and the Alpine has a 1 inch coil. This is gonna make a big difference when choosing an amp. The 2 ohm load (The XXX's) will be easier to find power for, a lot cheaper. The Alpine's will probably sound cleaner, but not play as loud. But if you're trying to keep up with some big subs, I would probably do the XXX. Better yet, I would try to find a local audio competition and check out some equipment in person and maybe it will help you narrow down your decision.

This amp kit should be just fine for a nice 4 channel amp. I would not hesitate to recommend this kit to anyone

When setting up the gains on an amplifier, there are a lot of things to take into consideration, and also the attention paid to the details, will ensure the proper functioning of your amp and also to the longevity of its life. Here is a link to help you out with this:

The functions of the crossover are to make sure the correct frequencies are sent to the correct speaker(don't want bass going to a tweeter!) And sound deadening is important to help with many aspects of an install. There are many reputable dealers on here and if you don't plan on competing, I would suggest a good product at a reasonable price.

anyways, whatever you can fill me in on is greatly appreciated

thanks guys (still waiting on josephs response:)) im going to out HD/satelite radio off for now, im sure i will get a deck in the future with something that will satisfy my needs.

The app and service are free, all you need is a working smartphone. Yes it does use data but I have a 4Gb cap and the only time I've come close is because I was streaming it for 8 hours a day at work and I use the "high quality" option which makes the data usage even higher...other than that I just got the vehicle dock for my phone which connects it to the aux input on my radio and also charges it at the same time. Pretty simple.

I have heard HD radio music and it does sound good.. Buddy has a alpine HD deck along with the HD box you need to get the music.. Your looking at around $300... Maybe more just a heads up...
