those splits in the wood look pretty big too. I was never sure how much splitting was too much splitting. I wonder what others think.

That one spilt looks horrible. Wondering what wood and screws op is using. My shi: doesn’t spilt?

Yeah MDF has to be predrilled. I refuse to use MDF anymore though. Sanded pine is what I run 99% of the time.

I was having sso many issues with 3/4 mdf splitting. tried multiple different screw sizes and pre drill sizes. MDF just WANTED to split. The only way I could get them to only split a tiny bit as opposed to completely separating was sanding the tips of #6 wood screws and using a #6 counter sink. but even then if I even hair triggered the drill just a fraction too much it would split.

I just got this done today. Poor mans man cave for a buddy. Just a mishmash of wood I had left over. Birch,oak plywood and some pine won’t find any mdf. Hardly any power with a Dayton 2.1 amp. Sounds great even shakes the garage doors. No splits enclosures lite as can be. No pre stain ju

st a get it done kinda deal on a 50 watt 25x2watt amp no wood splitting all clamped no screws. It takes longer but you don’t have to use screws. It’s the glue that bonds the wood ATTACH=full]21575[/ATTACH]. ATTACH=full]21571[/ATTACH]

I heard MDF is common because of it's density and vibration resistance. does using pine or birch require more bracing?

I don't know the scientific differences but the 3/4" 13 and 11 layer pine is very nice and doesn't require any more bracing than another other wood i've used. I normally use fiberglass resin on the insides anyways.

One thing i know for sure is mdf is heavybas heck the 3/4 4x8 sheets weight 98lbs. The box i made with subs inside weight 145

I was going for this sheet of birch. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Birch-P...728-in-x-23-75-in-x-47-75-in-154148/203504324 are these sheets ok to use? I could almost pick one sheet of 3/4 4x8 by one hand compared to the mdf

That birch is actually pine but has a very thin birch veneer on the front for looks. It's used for cabinets. Not worth the money at all over pine.
