running two amps

Someone told me if I wanted to run two amps one for each sub I'd need to get a pair of dual 2 ohm subs? Is this correct I have dual 4 ohm subs wired to 1 ohm and I want to add a second amp. But he said I'd run into a problem with wattage I'd need to either get a bigger amp or use dual 2 ohm subs.

Dont just say that.

one Dual 2 ohm will wire to 1ohm. one Dual 4 ohm will wire to 2ohm. 2 dual 4s wire to 1 ohm, so it would be easier to get 1 amp to power both subs @ 1ohm. Unless you already have the correct power @ 2ohm and plan to get an exact amp to run @ 2ohm on the other sub.

He said most amps. You dont know what kind of amps he knows. 99% of mainstream amps dont strap.

I didnt say it wasn't possible thats just what most are advertized to be stable at
