Ya I have another question about runnin active. Do you HAVE to have a active running HU to run active? Couldnt you just wire your mids to channels 1 and 2 and wire your tweets on 3 and 4 and just adjust the settings on the amp?

x2 but also its much easier if you have an HU with the processor capability because when you go active you NEVER quite tuning ha ha. thats why i just went back to passive, i kept wanting to change my settings everytime a different song came on.

Why do you HAVE to have bandpass to run active? Cant you jsut hook the mid up the the channel like a regular subwoofer?

because if your amp/hu doesnt have the right crossover freq your mids will go bye bye...

The midspeaker needs to have a HIGHPASS and a LOWPASS. One to filter frequencies ~80hz and above (HP) and one to filter frequencies ~2-2.5kHZ and below (LP).

Not to mention, the ZX650.4 doesn't even have the correct frequency range... much less the correct type of xover.

If you are wanting to go active, Ide look into a deck, like a 880/800 prs or ect..

The mids don't HAVE to have a lowpass filter on them. Depending on the size, they probably wont play past 3-4k hz in the first place, so it isn't exactly necessary, though it isn't bad a idea.

A high pass on them however, I wouldn't do without. My mids do not like playing anything below 50hz.

EXternal crossovers can be had fairly cheap. Why would someone need to have the crossover in the HU?

I have a 1/2 DIN external crossover that is collecting dust, if you want to take it off my hands. It is exactly what you need for running an active crossover kit that you can adjust in-car (if you wish) if you don't want to get a deck that has it built in. Most amps don't have a crossover that could go high enough for the tweets, around 2-3K Hz at least. And when you go active you have to have TA/EQ, and if you need to buy TA/EQ anyway then you get a processor that can go active. Otherwise you're better off staying passive.
