Running active, which woofer/tweeter would you use for $300/pair or less?

Hi all,

Looking to significantly upgrade my truck. I'm not sure exactly which processor I'm going to use yet, but I would like to go with active crossovers as I think this would give me the greatest flexibility and best sound.

I've heard HAT Imagines are great for active setups and are $299, so they're my base-point.

Could I do better buying separate components since I'm doing active? Or even a different component set? I was also looking at ID CTX65s, and they're $100 less than the Imagines, but most people seem to rate the Imagines as a better setup than the CTX65s, at least when biamped.

What do you guys think? I'll have these paired with two Sundown SU3 10s in a sealed box with 1200 watts, FWIW. Nothing too crazy.

Brandon

Id get raw drivers because if you buy a component set your also pying for the xover which you arent going to use, but i hear the IDs are good.

I have owned a set of imagines for over three years. I have ran the passive (as a coaxial) , passive separately and actively . In a treated and sealed door the mids are rowdy (in a good way) . The tweeter if run separate needs to have its own amp channel. They are extremely loud if you can't control there output. There are alot of choices out there in the 250-350 dollar range. Are the hats the best? I don't know. Do I absolutely love the mid? Yes. You could definitely make a worse choice. Hope you find something useful in this.

I've got some silver flutes and some vifa tweets for sale that you will really like a lot. For about 100 bucks you'll be glad and you can spend more money doing proper door treatments( the most important factor anyway). That's what I had planned to do before I sold my car.

Thanks for posting! You seem to be implying you're not crazy about the Imagine tweeter?

Thanks! I'll keep those in mind. Which models do you have?

Good point! Much less info on raw drivers, but I'm Googling and reading as much as I can. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
