Running a single 12" Type-R on a PDX-5

It would work OK.I'm running 2 12's Type 'R's on a pdx1000.1 vented box, very loud and clean,in fact at the moment I'm all Alpine.Alpine's 'S' sub is better at 300 rms and JL's 12w3-3-2 should be even better.I'v owned both{never the 'S',but Iv'e heard them..good sub].An idea..........hope that helps.............You will have better clarity with a matched power sub..you will get all of their performance underpowering will work if you already own that type 'R'..and that amp....

Clarity has nothing to do with power. The only thing that more power does is give you more output. There is absolutely no reason to think that you need to match amp rated power with sub rated power unless you only care about volume. That said, if you're looking for clarity, I'd look at a different sub. Clarity and precision are not the known strong points of the the type Rs. If you already have the sub, definitely go with a sealed box.
