Running a 16volt system...

if ur car wont run on 17 v ( 16v batts float in the 17 v range ) and most newer cars wont... ur gonna have to have 2 seaparate electrical systems...

u could use a step up transformer, but ur gonna need a beefy alt to charge those batts w/ a step up

so either way it looks like im going to need a new alternator. Right now its 130 amps. running two i guess would be the best. Anyone ran/run dual alts in a 99 explorer/mountaineer

 
Make sure you keep the 16v electrical system separate from your cars main electrical or you will have some bad shit ™ happening. That 16v step-up should work fine. You'll definetely need a beefy alternator to charge a 17+v source off of a 14v source, especially when you start pulling 50, 60a off of it. Running 16v batteries in your daily is utterly pointless, imo, BTW. Massive waste of money.

 
Yes, it will work. Is the only reason you want to run 16V, to get more power out of your amps? If that's the case, I would just invest in a good alternator, big wire and a bigger amp. Getting everything set up to run a 12V & 16V system together is going to cost some $$.
