I'm thinking of adding 4 more 3.5" midrange speakers to my system. Right now I am running everything off of an external 4ch amp. Has anyone tried running 8 speakers using the built in head unit amp and an external 4ch amp? My worries are that timing will be off between the two.

Any advice before I go and buy 4 more speakers would be much appreciated.

Getting better quality speakers is a better solution compared to adding more. Its sounds better with less hassle to worry about. Are you looking just to get louder? Also what amp do you have? It might not even be 2 ohm stable.

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.
