Roof Mounted 6.5 n Tweets. Right Above Your Head. To Much?

had a friend back in the 90`s that had some 3.5`s mounted up there in a regal. if you like really loud highs then go for it. just be sure you can see past them  and to all the people saying oh no dont do it. why not??? the only problem would be blocking his view. i`ve had tweeters mounted up high in every car but the one i have now and it sounded fine. i`ve seen SQ vehicles with tweeters mounted high that won comps. just because YOU haven`t done it or don`t like it doesn`t make it stupid. now 6.5`s would be a bit much but its his vehicle to do with as he wishes.

TRUTH IS 90% OF PEOPLE HAVE NEVER HEARD SPEAKERS UP THERE SO THEY HAVE NO fCUKIN CLUE. (sry for caps) they are just going by what they see/hear on the interwebz. Just run some wires from your amp to the speakers that you are wanting to put up there and atttch them temporaly. See whow they sound, you nor anyone else can tell you how they sound untill you have done it. You might not give a shit about imiging, some do.

Sry for all the ****ed up spelling.

Man do it. I can almost guarentee you no one on this forum has ever heard a set-up like that. They are just sticking to the basic guidelines. I say be different and give it a try. In-fact I'd like to see you use a quality processor and EQ/TA it all and see if you can make it sound good with good imaging. I bet it could be pulled off =D.

That's the entire point. He's not going to. He has $200 for two pairs of components...

Also, yes... I've seen it done before... and heard it.

O this is the same guy? Guess I should pay attention haha. Have you heard it with time put into the set-up? (aiming the speakers, TA, EQing, ect.?) I think with the speakers in some crazy off-axis design might be able to pull it off. Of course the pods would be probally block your sight.

so have i. its actually big around here. sounds awful, but the average stereo kid around here merely wants loud (i.e. buying 4 extra tweets for a comp set) and it does give them that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

An active setup with full time alignment and volume control on each driver would be a must, but even with that you're going to lose stereo separation. The left channel will be in front of you and the right off to the right. The result would be similar to having a crappy seat at the concert way off to one side.

Nope... just h00d ninja's wanting what this kid is vaguely talking about...

Exactly... I used to work at a shop in the h00d... lol.

Precisely. But...I bet the kid wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.

The truth is you have no clue what you are talking about. The basics of acoustics tell us mounting your tweeters in the bottom of garbage cans would sound like shit too. But nobody has actually tried it, so hell why not! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Unless you are planning on mounting your mids up there too, point sourcing will be a major problem along with the problems mentioned by helo and a couple others here.

Yeah I was planning on putting my mids up there aswell. I heard someone say something about me only wanting to spend $200 on components, whats wrong with that? Im probly going to be going with the PG RDS anyways and there less than $100 a set, cheap with great reviews

Since I am buying 2 sets (most likely unless 1 is enough) I was planning on one being placed in the regular door location with its tweeter at the top of the door panel, and the second set on the roof in a SMALL fiberglass enclosure.

Or I could just build panels in the door t accept both sets of components down low

If you want to look like a retard and have one of the worst sound stages ever, go for it. Honestly, this is like some Pimp My Ride nightmare shit.

Just get some better comps, deaden your doors well, and call it a day

And you have the room to talk how? People called John Sketoe dumb for using A pillar mounting of his components in his IASCA car, yet he went undefeated in 2006, wonder why he did that if it is just going to sound like shit. Scott Buwalda has all of his speakers mounted under the dash, I wonder if it sounds like shit too.

That said, to the OP, it'll take a lot of work to get them to sound right (phase, time alignment, etc) but could turn out good if done right. If you don't have the time, money, or equipment to perform the necessary tuning, and the countless hours you will spend with trial and error, I wouldn't bother.
