Furthermore, it doesn't appear that the extremist bombings have died down since our occupation. The fact that I still see American soldiers names on the night news doesn't seem to strengthen your position.

but we've already trained them. Past precedent says we cant cut and run. I agree if we werent already there we shouldnt get involved, however cutting funding and becoming an isolationist state wont work now

Your looking at it from the voters perspective, im looking at it from a party perspective.
read up on the economic theory of democracy, particularly about how 2 parties want to fight over as few ppl as possible and you will better see my point

I know. I didn't intend to indicate you were wrong, just offer an opposing theory....I already hinted at your explanation with Nixon's actions in the election of 1968.

Neither will staying there....How long should the occupation last? 10 years, 100 ears, 1,000 years?

If Iraq has no reason to support itself, then why should it? If they know they don't have to try and can rely on the US for funding, military protection, etc. what is its motivation for self-support? Furthermore, it has to develop this self-support in the image of the US. If Iraq wanted to chose communism, socialism, facism, etc as a mechanism for government, it wouldn't be allowed. It basically has to be the US's *****.
