It will not harm the sub if you do not break it in. The suspension will loosen on it's own.

I always learned the break-in period was the time it takes to soften the suspension and get everything that moves into an ordered movement. It never really affects the "life" of the sub, but the sound a little... Not even that much, it affects higher end drivers than low-end more audibly.
