I've been using Windows Media Player to rip my CD's to WM3 and store on a flash drive. A nice feature of my JVC HU is front panel USB and the random play feature will cycle through the 25 or so albums I can put on a 4 gig drive at 320 kbit.

What I don't like though is the differences in playback level from one album to the next. No big deal if you're listening to an album at a time but rather annoying when randomly playing one song at a time from different albums.

Is there a way to control the recording volume when ripping so that the whole library plays back at approximately the same level?

Do you have a CD player connected to your Head unit? If so, does it add more voltage drop or use more power that's noticeable? No overheating...
