1) First off, Go to and download the Audacity program and the LAME software add on. (you may want to go over the 'read.me' file if you don't know or have not used an audio editing program before.)
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
2) D/L the Audacity Program and the additional LAME software.
3) DRAG AND DROP any MP3 or WAV file to the Audacity users window.
-----Using the four tools (clockwise from top right
*Edit and cutting tool - You must cut your audio selection to LESS than 30 seconds
*Volume Curve tool--must use two points to fade in/out just a small segment at the beginnning or ending of the selected audio. The fading will make your ringtone sound better.
*Magnifier- useful when you are trying to get a specific cut.
*Object- just moves the object/audio in the window to the left and right.
4) An example of my 21 second edit of lil John's - Throw It Up.
* notice the volume curves at the begining and end of the track. This just makes the ringtone sound more proffesional.
5) Click on FILE and go to PREFERENCES
