Ringtones from computer

1) First off, Go to and download the Audacity program and the LAME software add on. (you may want to go over the 'read.me' file if you don't know or have not used an audio editing program before.)

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

2) D/L the Audacity Program and the additional LAME software.

3) DRAG AND DROP any MP3 or WAV file to the Audacity users window.

-----Using the four tools (clockwise from top right:)

*Edit and cutting tool - You must cut your audio selection to LESS than 30 seconds

*Volume Curve tool--must use two points to fade in/out just a small segment at the beginnning or ending of the selected audio. The fading will make your ringtone sound better.

*Magnifier- useful when you are trying to get a specific cut.

*Object- just moves the object/audio in the window to the left and right.

4) An example of my 21 second edit of lil John's - Throw It Up.

* notice the volume curves at the begining and end of the track. This just makes the ringtone sound more proffesional.

5) Click on FILE and go to PREFERENCES

Step5.jpg

6) Click on the Spectrogram Tab and make sure 64 Kbps is checked--click ok.

Step6.jpg

7) Go to FILE once more and this time click on EXPORT AS MP3. Save it wherever you like on your computer. I would recomend making a temporary file on your desktop... the web site you are going to use next does not like long file names.

Step7.jpg

8) Now go to http://www.funformobile.com and click on the UPLOAD tab

Step8.jpg

9) Enter your Cell Providers name, your phone number, browse and link your file, name it, and upload it.

Once you do this a few times it is really easy. I DONT buy ANY ringtones anymore. You can, with audacity, snag any audio clip that will play on your p/c speakers. Thats another lesson. Maybe I will be nice and post a thread about that topic.

Have fun... and remember...if you cant figure it out... you can always PAY me to do it for You!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

hackers unite!!!! LOL!

your welcome??????

Bump? --- dammit... I stayed up late doing this for you! LOL!

Seriously, pm me or I will check back into this forum if you have any questions or would like a walk through.

how's that a hack?

you can do it yourself with no website with a usb cable, and an unlocked firmware.

it doesn't need to be 30 seconds> either.

you can also do screensavers, wallpapers, and videos to and FROM the phone.

games aren't possible with verizon, tho, because their games are actually locked to the serial number of the phone, where every other carrier simply uses java-based games that aren't locked.

Effin HATER!! GTFOTT //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif .... it was a joke...

1) a cell phone does not ring MORE than 30 seconds max before it goes to voicemail so why waste the extra precious memory on the cell.

2) only phones with ActiveSynch or otherwise similiar programs can synch thru the usb (and at that time you will need a software pckg or 'hack' for the device to do such.) He didnt want to go this route.

3)- this thread was about ringtones... not videos, wallpapers or screensavers. Stay on Topic please!

I answered his question based on my experience in the cell phone customer service industry-- no more.

g'nite... will check tomorrow!

Okay....I went through all of that with only minor problems and I got to the end and it says I need internet on my phone right??? Cause I don't...is that a problem? And also, my carrier's name wasn't on that list (alltel) so i picked cellular one since thats who they used to be I think....

I found a usb cord that fits into my phone, can I export the mp3 file to my phone from the computer using audacity...if there is no way to upload it from that site with having alltel and no internet??

The "This phone has internet access" check box is to make sure the phone has the ability to go to and d/l the content you are sending. for example: a Verizon phn MUST have VCast capabilities. A T-Mobile phone must have either t-zones or internet access. (sorry...SideKicks wont work)

about the usb connection; There are unfortunately soooo many variables it is hard to say. I am not at all familiar with AllTell phones, sorry. I know that you can DEFINATELY export songs from your p/c if you are able to provide it with the right file extension. Motorola sells a disk that does this for you. Active Synch is another program ZI can think of off the top of my head that correlates with Windows (XP Usually), Windows Media Player, and the device (usually running some type of mobile media software, Like the MDA phone I use.) The great thing about using FunForMobile is that it does the 'file conversion' for you (hence the need to select your carriers network.) There are a million and one sites that can help you get free ringers...this is just the way I chose to do it.

If anyone has a Blackberry, PM me, i will give you a freebie web site for misc ringtones designed for use on ANY blackberry.

Ok, I have a lg9800 and have the internet taken off kuz i never really use it. and never got vcast. So I am gonna take it as this would not work under the current circumstances
I would try it, your phone just has to be "INTERNET CAPABLE"..... with a Verizon phone that simply means it has to be capable of using V-cast (their version of the mobile internet). Instead of getting unlimited use, it will use your minute(s) while you are downloading the file.

I downloaded this motorola mobile phone tools program, it says it can do ringtones and stuff, but I don't know how to use the win rar thing I have... would this program work well?
