Ive been reading alot of posts on this site, and alot of people try to down the knowledge and skills of the people that work for circuit city and best buy. Im just wondering why there is such a negative vibe about the people who work for and buy things and have them installed by either of these companies.

i dont understand that either. when you guys online say they said that the compvr hits harder then the alpine R type, do u understand they have a job they have to say shit about other stuff that they dont carry, i work at CC i dont say hey man get an RE sub they are way better then these subs here and those R type get them they are the best out there, i say dude this compvr hits over any sub at bestbuy alpine sucks jl sucks. i say cause ilike to keep my job cause i have bills to pay too. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

because more often than not the people that work there don't know what they are doing or what they are talking about.

So just because u may have encountered one or two people that work at a particular store that may have been boneheads, ur gonna say that the company as whole is bad? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

curious to hear more from others..... i think this might be a good topic. anyone have first hand experience or work at any of these shops, lets hear from you!!!

i was just hired at best buy as a sales rep (no installs as of now) but i know alot about car audio especially for the retail standpoint. Even though we dont get profit ourselves, we have to sell other brands more than others so we look good. BUT, if i can tell what someone wants and needs, i will guide them in the direction of their budget and help them out as much as possible.

i understand exactly what u are talking about. i think that those stores are geared more towards first time buyers anyways and not so much people lookin to build competition grade systems.

One of the guys at my local circuit city actually knew what he was talking about. They used to sell excelon stuff so I bought my amp from them. Nothing wrong with it if you know what you are talking about. Take what they say with a grain of salt. I like the extended warranty I tried to blow my amp to upgrade but its still going six years later

I wish someone in my town sold eXcelon gear. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif No one does that I am aware of.

I can't speak for Best Buy or Circuit City as a whole - as both companies are far more widespread than this lil one-horse town...

But my experience with the folks in the install shops of both stores here (CC and BB) couldn't tell you the difference between a coaxial and a component to save their lives. Not a great deal of job training going on there.

I think that its really hit or miss with places like bb and cc ive been into both near me as well as a few other places and they look and me like I have 4 heads when I talk to them about some of the brands that I want to install and how I want it done. I went into a tweeter just to check out some focal's and see what they could do for install on the stuff that I had puchased (to busy to do it myself) and when I told the guy that I wanted to install my front stage fully active, he didnt have a clue what I was talking about I actually had to explane what an active setup was to the installer. It was pretty sad...

in instances like that, i can see what you mean. i just hate it when people like to generalize all shops and say that noone in any of them know what they are talkin about or know how to do their jobs.

They get a bad rap due to the fact of them being so large and basically a well known chain. This could happen to any company thats large enough, its just typical stereotyping. All their installers came from somewhere or started somewhere, some good, some bad. Its basically just a chance one has to take before knowing.

I can understand your position on needing your job, but what about morals? This is the prime reason I opened my own business. Sure I have quotas to make, but if someone asks me a question, Ill answer them honestly whether it benefits my sales or not. Keep in mind no sales for me, means no food on the table for my family.

I no longer was able to deal with the things some of my former jobs had me doing/saying to customers which was just wrong. Im an avid 12V fan and have been in the industry about 7years. Being the manager at my past few jobs I was typically the final person the customer had to deal. Giving them misleading info or products just to make a few bucks made Me feel like sh!t. Call me old fashioned, but its the way I feel. Id rather answer honestly and give the customer what they want or tell them where to go for it, then flat out lie about it. I believe a few people on here can attest to that as well.

as with any company . you have to say what you sell is better than anyone else's stuff that's just the way that you make sells so say tomorrow you started your own company and you make subs amps or even brake pads . .you will always say that yours are better right . .it's making sells . but as far as installers go you should have a repitable person do it. even if they work for bb or cc. or any where else. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

They also get a bad rep because their hiring standards aren't exactly as high as some place like a custom shop would be...you really don't have to know much to get a job there (I'm an installer at CC, BTW).
