Repub debates tonight, Paul slammed

Why does school have to be regulated by the federal government if school vouchers are used? It should be left at the State levels...that's the big point Ron Paul has been pushing.
Get the federal government uninvolved with things like that and let the State manage things like school vouchers and whatnot.
Because not all states will place the same emphasis on education. Hell, it would be possible for states to not offer education at all. Federal oversight ensures some standards.

That is the point of school vouchers. We (those who support vouchers) want schools to compete.
For instance, my county is an open zone and the schools compete over students....to a small degree. Those with higher intellectual aptitude go to a school who places more attention on a more difficult regimen. Those with more atheletic ability attend another school. I think those are good things.

What is problematic is that if you are poor, you can't travel to the school of your choice, you must go to the school assigned. If you want to go to a school that better fits your needs, you have to supply your own transportation. It is my hope that these schools would faciliate the transportation. I haven't seen a way that would work on a large scale though.
ah, we have the same here, although there is probably only 3-4 students who actually do it

I dunno....set minimum standards then at the Federal level and leave the rest to the States.
Economics is my weak point.
What standards? Monetary standards, education level standards, etc?

See the point...

I support vouchers because it removes either party from setting those standards. I'd rather see those standards be set by the stakeholders (the parents).

And this is where I am very torn. If the govt issued you a check for the equivalent of what they currently spend in education, how many parents would buy a new truck, a pound of blow, lottery tickets, food, mortgage, etc vs. spending it on their kids.

I can't trust the govt to be effective and I can't trust the parents not to cheat.

Still though, if transportation wasn't an issue, I think choices would be better. But not too many choices as that causes problems. Reading the Paradox of Choice leads me to believe the average person would be worse off with more choices.

Sure the United States isn't perfect, but come on if you really think were in a terrible position you ought to go live in North Korea or something.
Quit you're *****ing, America is doing just fine.

Our glory years might be over, but i doubt that any president can really do anything about that.

Our power on the world stage might decline, but i'm betting we will still enjoy a pretty great standard of living compared to the vast majority of the world's population.

I got an idea, howsabout **** you! Last I checked it was my constitutional right to ***** about stuff here in the good old USA. If I don't like it, I'ma gonna voice my opinion. I don't live in North Korea and I have no desire to, I like it here just fine, I just don't like the way some things are handled. I'm so sick and tired of people saying stupid shit like "If you don't like it here then leave". No, **** YOU, I't my right to be here and ***** about it just like it's your right to sit there and tell yourself everything is alright.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Funny that you recognize you have a right to speak your mind and yet you don't realize the magnitude of having such a right. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ron Paul is clearly the best choice. Taking into account schools, the Federal Government obviously doesn't know what they are doing. I remember when they have the "head start" program, that has changed to "no child left behind" program.. why? Let the states do their thing, micro-manage as opposed to macro.
