heh.
Alright, 50 sqft of damplifier for doors, rear deck, and trunk. No problem, right?

First time I've dampened.

Crack open the doors, peel off the plastic seal...

"...omgwtflolbbq!"

thought i knew what i was doing, but i saw this:

where do i damplify????

I assume all green, the silver, and the green behind the window... Or is that overkill? And of course I take off all the little plastic snap-on pieces, right?

ok, you should definitley dampen the doors, and anything that doesn't move. a lot of cutting and mesure is going to be needed for this job, you wont be able to just cut one sheet and apply it to the door. you'll have to take your time with this job and just cut as big of a sheet as you can without affecting any of the mechanical parts. thats all there is to it....just very time consuming and have a lot of patience with it...

do NOT start taking pieces off.

cut the dampening material so that the little plastic clips and such things are still accessable (little circle holes)

its not a major problem if there is a 1" piece not dampened here or there, just cover as much metal as you can. that silver bar in the middle is the support for your power window motor (thats what the three bolts to the right secure, and the gold bar is the window guide - DO NOT DAMPEN THE WINDOW GUIDE! or, maybe your window wont work correctly.

but dampen behind the window too (inside of the outer part of the door sheetmetal. that should help.

basically, the routene is clean\dry\stick\roll (little wooden roller to squish it down\secure it well) and maybe heat (to secure it better)

not really too hard.

Where do I damplify?!!?
As mentioned....everything that doesn't move. You'll need to reach your hand back there and sound deaden the back side of the outer doorskin (the metal behind the window) with a few layers. Then you'll want to sound deaden (and seal with the sound deadener) the inner doorskin (the metal infront of the window, closest to the inside of the door) so that the inner door skin looks something like this:

On the outer skin, the metal closest to me, it seems theres a lot of empty space... do I damplify over all of that too?
Yup...that's what the picture shows (when it's working...SD appears to be down right now or something). That's how you "seal" your door...by covering all those openings.
