replacing subs-- W7 or solo-baric L7?

The store where I usually get my stuff in no longer carries kicker, they say it's because the quality of their product has gone way down. Are they just trying to get me to fork out the $650 for the W7. I really think I'm starting to lean towards the L7, sounds like it will give me good SQ and with a decent amount of bass, I really dont need the crazy bass that the W7 would put out, or the price tag. Would the JL 500/1 be a good match for the L7? I was really happy with how this amp performed with my w3s

If you don't need the output of the W7 but still want it's sound quality, check out the W6v2. Great sounding driver, as good as the W7, only not as loud as the W7. A lot of ppl actually prefer the W6v2 over the W7. It'll kick the crap out of a L7 in SQ too.

depending on the enclosure... sounds like youd be better off with a w6v2 if you want a good price tag, good sq and "dont need crazy bass."

I have an opinion... My friend has a 12" L7 in a 2 cu ft vented box to around 28 hz. Its in a truck right behind us. Hooked up to a PG octane 800 watt mono amp. Its pretty loud but nothing special, its ok. The sound quality is basically like crap. It just sounds so weird and the bass doesnt flow like my type r ir HC did. If your gonna be hooking up the jl 500 watt amp it wont be loud enough for you, especially if you take the advice by putting it in a sealed box with polyfill.

Now the thing about the w6v2, they sound nice but then again, Ive read in too many places that they are very comparable to an Alpine Type R. You can buy 2 of them for around 200 on ebay brand new... But then again, the w6v2 would work best with the 500 watt jl amp...

It'll kick the crap out of a L7 in SQ too.

install dependant...I have seen L7's walk on W7's in SQ...and I've seen W7's beat L7's...point is...install dependant.

Install certainly is key, but Im sorry, the W7 has way more potential in SQ than does the L7. The W7 is BL optimized, check the BL curves, the W7 is almost flat, the L7 is a bell shape. The L7 is a nice woofer, but the W7 is in a whole different class.

agian, at three times the cost...I can build a sealed box with a flat response for waaaay less. IMHO.

IMO pretty much all JL products, while excellent quality, are over priced.
