Replacing a JL W3 with a W6

u spent way too much money for that sub to be crammed into a corner by it's lonesome.
@pro\-rabbit
something like this will be twice as loud (this example is for a W7), but you get the idea. There are a few here who can build and ship a ported box that will fit against the back seat and not consume the whole trunk...plz go ported. U will thank later with 500 watts to work with.

can't believe every suggestion so far is for ported....with a sweet sub like the W6 ?
nobody does SQ builds anymore, I guess, lol
False, ported boxes can achieve the same if not better sound. It all depends on the design and what you want. Why not get the sq with additional output?

Why not?

Because opie already remarked that she has a small trunk, and a single W6 will be awesome in a tiny little 0.6ish sealed box.....especially considering she was used to two W3's that were being fed 500WRMS total, and can give the one W6 at least 600WRMS.

Fed clean power, in a custom sealed box.... ?!

gtfo with ported

People are recommending ported because she used the w3's in a 1.2 sealed enclosure. The 10w6 in a ported would be about 1 cubic foot maybe some change. There is no reason not to go ported since she clearly has the room.

She is looking at likely having to have a new enclosure, regardless..... I would just choose the smaller, sealed option in that situation

Granted, I am biased towards sealed just because of the sub, lol

Ugh... it's just so hard to justify $400 on a box... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif
That's about what I've spent on my entire system! Not only that, but I'm trying to save up for a new double din HU!
If you're spending $400 on a box.... you're doing something wrong.

You can still have SQ with ported...

If you're halving your cone area and not increasing your power, and still looking for the same output.... I can't imagine going with anything OTHER than a ported box. I don't care how small your trunk is, it wouldn't be hard to fit a ported box for a W6 in it. As it's been said before, it'd likely end up being smaller than her current enclosure.

There are over 4 vendors here that I know of that can build sick enclosures and ship them to you for much cheaper. Just look at the vendor section and some of their builds. Super clean and they will help you make something that doesn't consume the entire trunk. I guess you're going to keep the w3's though? Or are you on the fence about the whole thing? If you can sell the w3 setup and make enough to not spend much on the w6, i'd do that.
