Replacing a JL W3 with a W6

I have two 10w3's but one is really getting on my nerves... posted another thread about it... don't really want to refoam it for a second time. I have a friend who's trying to sell his 10w6 and would give me a great deal.

So, my question is... would it be a bad idea to have a 10w3 in the same sealed box (1.2 cubic feet) as a 10w6? I'm just thinking that since the box is sealed and they share a mono amp, 1. won't the air that's being displaced be different, and potentially damage the w3, and 2. won't the w6 be underpowered at the ideal gain settings for the w3?

yes

big no no, you might be happier with one properly tuned ported enclosure on that one 10w6

^ That's what I thought... problem is, I'm not trying to spend a ton of money... already spent a lot more than I should have. My box right now is custom and G35's have awfully small trunks... the price of a custom ported box for a single W6 will run me around $350-400 or so... plus the cost of the W6. I guess I'll just try to fix what I've got...

Not so much of a concern for the sizing of the enclosure you have, as the W3 is , like , 0.63 - 0.75 cubes per in sealed, while the W6 is okay down to 0.63cubes.

Just gonna sound like shizz to mix the two, I'm thinking, esp with the 250WRMS max on the W3 vs/ the 600WRMS on the W6.

With such a nice scub as the W6, maybe you could just place a baffle in ur current box to take it down by around half until you can come up with another W6 or $$ to build a specific enclosure for the 1 scub....

unsure how much diff in the versions, chica, but waylotz closer to okay that way than mixing the W3+W6

double-check JL Audio's site for their outline of the specs....prolly not much diff, at all

I'd still sell the two W3's and run with the single W6, tho

Will my 500/1 be okay for a single W6? If I could manage to sell my current set up I'd actually love to switch... I think it would sound much cleaner... but would it hit as hard?

The 500/1 is a good match for a single w6. If you go with a ported enclosure you could have just as much output as the w3's sealed. I'd go with the w6.

Ugh... it's just so hard to justify $400 on a box... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

That's about what I've spent on my entire system! Not only that, but I'm trying to save up for a new double din HU!

Car audio is just one of those things that you can have a lot of money tied up into in a short little time. I just stopped counting after the 3rd build in my truck.

400 bucks my ass. @dbeez can build you one and ship it for a decent price. A nice ported box that fits within your size limitations with that 10w6 would be great.

$400??!?! I hope someone didn't quote you that lol that's outrageous. You can have an enclosure built and shipped to you for usually around $200 or less. I can build you one but I've never shipped a box before so... lol
