Removing stock radio

hi guys. i have a 2003 chevy malibu. it has the blinking red light on the stock radio, which has something to do with the theft system. i have looked everywhere online and in the cars booklet and cannot find how to disable it before i install my aftermarket radio. if i dont disable it, it will lock out my stock radio! any ideas on how to disable it?

are you sure? mine had that too in a 01 tahoe and i just took it out.

i read online somewhere that if its not disabled, it wont have the same passcode when u try to reinstall it and it wont recognize it (if i had to sell it for some reason with the stock)

if you are going to put an aftermarket stereo in why not just pull it out as is? everytime you d/c the battery the theft protection will turn on. so wether if you unlock it now, and d/c it from the car, it's going to lock up on you again once it loses power. so just pull that shit out and install the new one.

ok so no matter what i do, when i pull it out it will be locked forever? can this be prevented by disconnecting the battery?

also, after i get the right wire harness the process consists of installing the dash kit and re-plugging in some wires to the aftermarket unit right?

Disconnecting the battery is what will cause the radio to lock. Whoever told you the pass code changes does not know what they are talking about. I am pretty sure there is no way to change or disable the code. But if you dont have the code the dealership can get it for you.
