Removable Port

Hello, I am considering making a removable port for my box. Right now it is 5 cubic feet, tuned to 36 hz for 1 RE HC 15. The 5 is after displacements. My port opening is 15.5 X 4 inches. I am thinking about tuning it lower for daily, somewhere around 30-32. The depth of the port is 16"

My Question is, how do I do this? If I make the port 15.5 X 3.25 will that make the tuning higher or lower? If so, I could just add a piece of wood into the port so it is 15.5 X 3.25 instead of X 4. Also, does anyone have a good suggestion as to how I can make the wood secure but easily removable? I want to have it so it is reversable fairly easily.

make a plug that fits into the port that is longer and has slightly less surface area. you can secure the plug to the box with T-Nuts

OK thanks. Where can I get T-Nuts from? Just a local shop like Home Depot?

Another thing, how do I improve transient response? Is that based on enclosure size, tuning frequency? Both, neither?
