Remote Wire Not Turning Off My Amp

well if you have a ton of extra power and ground wire in your trunk and if the power wire is over the top of you amp it could induce power in the amp and keep it on. that happened to me for a while. you may also want to check your remote turn on and see when your HU is off that the power threw the wire is off too

REM line is the 12v constant line that turns on your amplifier. Should be an 18awg blue wire. Usually it is ran to the back of the head unit, other times the wire is ran directly to the + battery terminal.

I have the remote wires going from the head unit back to the amps. I actually ran a 14awg blue wire not an 18awg. Would this be causing to much power?

I do not believe the wire is running to the battery under the hood.

Yeah, it sounds like the remote wire is connected directly to the batt.
Well connecting it straight to the battery is fine, it wont turn on until there is signal from the HU. Or it shouldnt at least. Anywhoo, sounds like there is something going on with the HU, because if it stops receiving signal (powered off) then it shouldnt send a signal to the amp causing it to stay on. Do you have a bunch of excess power/ground wire where your amp is? Someone else mentiopned it further up..

did you connect the remote line to the right wire on the headunit?

get a multimeter

they look like this - you can get one for $13 at harbor freight

and turn the knob to DCV (Direct Current Voltage - sometimes just says DC, or V, and there is a switch for AC and DC - make sure its on DC and Volatge) and attach it to the remote wire (just touch the probe to the amps terminal) and turn the car off. if it reads ANYTHING (most likely 12v) its been hooked up wrong.

check to see if your power wire is freyed and touching the remote wires terminal. that could be the cause of the problem.

also, take the headunit out, and make sure you have it connected to the right wire. it should be connected to a blue, or blue with a wite stripe wire (NOT THE YELLOW WIRE - THIS IS ALWAYS 12V+)

the blue wire sends 12v when the CD PLAYER is on to the amps, letting them know to turn on as well, and whent he cd player turns off, it stops sending 12v to the amps, and the amps turn off.

find extra wires on the back of the CD player, and strip a bit off the end, and put the black wire on a ground (metal spot in the dashboard that is a frame support to the dashboard, or the antenna wire works well too) and then take the posativ (red) probe and touch the end of the wires, turn the cd player on and off, and if one of the wires sends 12v when the cd player is on (car is on too) and it sends 0v when the cd player is off, this is the wire you need to run to your amps.

if you cant figure it out for the life of you, run the remote line to the RED wire off the back of the cd player. this is a switched ignition wire. it will turn the amplifier off every time the key is taken out, and on every time the key is turned.

good luck. hope i helped. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Dam Reg, Nicely put, My friend was stupid and had a wire going from the 12V spot on hte amp, to the Rem on the amp, causing the same effect if the remote was hooked to the 12V batterry, My friend hooked up his Rem eventually, but i think his friend screwed it up. Eventually he just got a switch that he drilled a hole in the cd player frame somewhere and switches it on and off when really he could have just let me wired it and not have to deal wit hwether his switch is off when he left his car, yet i think it looks cool and like dangerous, like (the little red button your not supposed to touch dangerous) I think its just somethihng else he will have to worry about.

WTF?

Your amp picked up a 12volt source through the air:laugh:
