Remote turn-on with no head unit

I'm looking to setup a cheap amplifier (plus a possible equalizer) with 2x 4x6 speakers in an older car with no head unit. I want to connect it to an MP3 player then plug into the RCA of the amp.

Is it possible just to run power into the the remote turn on from a power source with a switch to turn it on and off with no problems?

2nd...how much power is required to trigger the remote turn on? The manual on a Boss amp says make sure it has at least 3VDC. I've read some threads where people measure 12v.

Thanks!

you can tap into the cigarette lighter if it turns off when you get out of your car

basically any 12v source

its usually .5 milliamps or so current draw, so basically any 12v source
