Remote control

I do not know for absolute certain but I would suggest that your plan should work.

Some years ago I bought a Kenwood cassette receiver that was 'remote capable' but didn't actually come with one so I also bought the optional "credit-card" remote for it. It's worked every single Kenwood deck I've owned since then. The deck I run currently came with its own remote (which looks like the same remote all the recent Kenwood remote-controlled HUs are supplied with) but I still keep the credit-card one in the car 'cause I like the feel of it better and with a spot of Velcro holding it to my driver's-side visor it's heaps handier to keep track of.

If there's a remote that looks like the one you lost but it came supplied with a different model Panasonic HU I would wager that it's the exact same remote and should operate your deck just fine.
