The only thing in this thread that ticked me off was that "religion is man's way to control the masses."
Thats such a tired argument. The originators of most religious texts and the major characters in them were extremely focused on being true and moral.

Even if you don't literally believe in religion, the texts can still teach valuable lessons that can help greatly in today's society. Don't dismiss religion because some ******* shoves stuff down your throat.

Yeah. As much as people would like to refute the bible, the majority of people live their lives as it teaches whether they know it or not.

Again, I couldn't care less.

there are other religions besides christianity, thus other books besides the bible. judaism, islam, buddhism, taoism
all seem to follow a linear path of you care enough to learn about them all. the rest from there is just connecting the dots.

that being said, should you trust the bible? nah, probably not. its a reference book just like anything you pick up off the shelf. I wouldnt recommend trusting any one source without comparing it to something else; however, once you have compared so much you realize that it isn't all bullshit...or at least that has been the case in my study so far.

look at it as a historical half-truth rather than the definitive source for life itself. theres more out there. For anyone to place 100% trust in the Bible is, I believe, just plain foolish.

but there is nothing in the bible that seems true to me other than the common sense respectful way of living your life. aka: the golden rule. thats really all that thick *** cheap papered book says away from the stories of random occurances, that are SAID to happen. History is based on facts and proven happenings, correct? If this is so, how can you look at the bible as being even a "hstorical half-truth". your right about other religions but it seems like you said...they follow the same general "there is a higher power so we need to live FOR it. not BY the general "be nice" rule. They just throw there own mix on things (not eat beef, pray 5 times a day or whatever it may be.) When it comes down to it, all religions are is old stories. Its like something you believe but its so old you were never there to witness it. Like I personally think that I would be better off in the 50's making shit with my hands, driving a 29 ford chop top and a flat head, but thats my BELIEF. I hate all these "machines" that are building things for us, it seems as though people have no skills anymore for the most part, nothing is hand made. That being said...I dont and never WILL KNOW if I would of been better off in that time period because well....I will never experience it, or see it, same goes for religion.

People say they have "seen god" but all that shit is, is that they had a good day and something great happened to them.
